This was s'possed to be a reply to Sara's post on do not adjust your screen! I had 2 windows open........

Creampuff, I think you have to take a course on real estate at a community college or something to take a test to get your license.......

Check your local realestate companies. Some places offer classes. Two places I have lived Coldwell Banker has offered them. HTH!

We have adult ed here that teaches the class to get your liscene. Its about $250. You may check with your library or chamber of commerce, they should be able to tell you if there are classes ava in you area. I think its a pretty cut throat business, but is pretty good money once you get established.
Good luck to you if you decide to pursue a job in real esate. We will be pulling for you!!

I have been checking into this myself, talking to a couple of realtors I know. Here in Kansas, the class runs about $200, then you pay to take the test, and there are many other dues and fees involved. You need to become affiliated with a broker, and pay for your own business cards (with a professional photo, of course), signs, etc. You also need a cell phone and possibly a laptop computer. Start up costs would be a minimum of $1,000 and do not plan on making any money for the first six months. You are very much "self-employed", so you need to keep excellent records (taxes). It can be difficult getting established, once you get your license, you need to start promoting yourself, no one is going to bring you any business, you have to go out and find your own. Realtors that have been in the business for years get plenty of referrals, from former clients and friends/family. Every agent I spoke with strongly emphasized that it can take 3-12 months (or even longer), before you ever see your first commission check.

Well, tonight I went to a "Career Seminar" sponsored by the largest Real Estate firm in my city. It was very informative. They did go over a lot of things that I mentioned in my last post. I am going to take the "Principles of Real Estate" class in April. It is $175. Then I can take the test for my license (another $75). I am very excited. I plan to work another job also, while I am getting started.
