    Talking Ebay help???

I have been doing ebay for sometime now and have great feedback...it was mostly a hobby for me but now I am trying to pay off a loan and get my savings up...I want to get into it pretty hot and heavy....lol.....I have tons of stuff to put on....I have done pretty good so far, but I thought I would get some input from the other ebayers on here:

What day do you think is the best to list and end your item? I heard that is was on Sunday, but not sure if this is true.

Do you list your item for the amount that you want to get or do you list is low and have a reserve price?

How do you determine shipping fees, and how do you prefer to send your items?

Do you list a certain number of items each week or just list as much as you have at one time?

Any other input would be greatly appreciated...I am getting my stuff ready to list and just thought I would get your input...

    Thanks in advance!!!

I sold my entire button collection on e-bay and made quite a pretty sum. I started with a very low price- $2.00 for the lot, and never put a reserve. Some of those buttons went for $75 a piece!! Needless to say I was very shocked. But- the most important thing I did was research- and lots of it. I researched what other button auctions were going for- who was successful and why, etc. The sales pitch makes a big difference. I found that it didn't matter what day of the week my auctions ended- they did equally as good. Depending on what you are selling, that may or may not be true. Good luck with your auctions- it is loads of fun! I must have checked mine 100 times a day to see how they were doing!!

I agree, the main thing is to research and see what items like yours are going for. I used to start items really low, and I did great. But with so much competition, I now usually start things at the minimum that I'm willing to sell it for.

I prefer to spread my auctions out through the week. You will get the most looks on the day you list them and on the day they close. So, if you have auctions closing 3 or 4 days a week, then usually they will also check out your other stuff too! The only day I don't end an auction on is Saturday. They have never done well for me.

For shipping, I got a cheap scale at a garage sale. It does up to 25 pounds. I have a big empty box, and I sit that on it, and place whatever I'm selling in it. That gives me an idea of how much it will weigh packed. I give my buyers a choice between priority mail or standard. I only used Fedex if it's really big, because there is not one close to me.

You can PM me if you have any more questions.

I am a member of an ebay board, and the big sellers there swear by ending auctions on sunday night.
They also hold themselve to a goal of 6 auctions up every night

We don't sell a lot but in the summer we sell some. I always use priority mail if it is not a media mail item. It is easier to figure your postage using priority and you can get your supplies for free. You can order the boxes, mailing label, even the tape from the post office for free if you use priority. We do not take any online payments or personal checks, we only take money orders or cashiers checks. Although even though I plainly state it in my auctions I have on occassion recieved personal checks, the ones that were for small amounts (under $10) we cashed but the ones that are for the larger amounts I sent back to the sender and requested money order or cashier's check.

We have never used the reserve auction price, we just start it at the lowest price that we will take and hope for the best. We usually do a buy it now for a reasonable amount, we don't usually get a buy it now before the first bid but once in a while it happens. .

We have sold tools, auto parts, dishes, a quilt top, clothes, housewares and a few other items. I love ebay, it is an econimical way to make a few extra dollars.

DH is completely hooked on it, he doesn't buy much but he has to get on each night and check out the auto parts section, LOL.

Good luck!!! I hope you make lots of $$$$.

I checked out your auctions, they look good! I would have one recommendation though. If you look at your auctions on the baby clothes, you see how your sort of at a back angle. What I found, is that if I lay a white tablecloth on the floor and then lay the clothes on them, I can stand over them, and get a straight shot. I sold a bunch of clothes last summer and after lots of trial and error, I found that looking down on them created the most realistic view.

I went to try and find a picture of some clothes from that looking down on them angle, but I couldn't find any. But I did find an example of a Christmas stocking that I made last year, so you can see how looking straight down on it gets rid of that sideways angle.
