Pricing Question
I have been asked to give a price for making a purse for a little girl. The mom wants a specific fabric design (ballet shoes on it) and she wants "fluffy" trim in pink. Similar to the ones I've done in the past but this is the first time anyone has been specific on the fabric and the first time that I've sold one. I usually give them as gifts or add them to my inventory for a future craft sale. So here's the question
How much do I charge for this purse?
Please give me an honest idea of how much you would personally be willing to pay for a handmade purse - for a child? and how much for an adult purse (bit bigger)?
It's hard to say how much I have in it as far as supplies go, because I bought enough fabric and trim to do more than one purse. Still it was not a cheap shopping trip.
Help.........

Well, when I'm out shopping for purses in the stores I would never spend more than $20 on a purse for myself simply because they are my weakness and I have a ton. If I didn't have this "thing" about buying purses I would spend A LOT on a good quality purse.
For a child's purse I wouldn't spend more than $15 on it. If it was something that I was buying that was made homemade (like from you or from a craft fair) $15 would be my limit. If I was buying this purse from a store like Target I would spend less.
I would base your price on the money spent on the materials, your time and I would also mark up the price so you will have some profit.
I hope I helped a little with my input. I may be the wrong one to ask and I might pay more than others just because of my love of purses.
Good luck to you and I'm sure that whatever you decide will work out great for you. Oh -- one other thing....try to be consitant with your prices. You don't want Sue down the street finding out she paid more than Mary around the block - know what I mean?

I agree that you need to make sure you make a profit. . . . .
Add up the cost of your materials. . . . add in a fair profit and see if she's willing to pay the price.
How much do you normally sell them for at the craft fairs?

Thank you. I've never sold any of them before and each one is unique. Mainly because I can't ever do the same thing the same way twice. LOL I'm leaning toward $15 for the child's purse and $20 - $25 for the adult depending on whether it's homemade woven trim or beaded storebought trim.
Thanks for the link Diana. I'm marking it to check out after I'm off here.
