Sending out Flyers
Okay, the girls who used to come after school aren't coming anymore. They were getting a bit old for it, (I thought), and I think they finally convinced Mom that they could do their homework on their own. I'm fine with it, but it was $150 a week that I was making and we need that now more thanever. So, I made up a flyer and I think I'm gonna do a little mailbox stuffing in my neighborhood. I hate to be pushy, but I'm gonna give it a try. I really need the money. It's for both piano lessons and academic tutoring. All I need is 3 hours worth of people to make up for the $$ loss.

I think it's a great idea.
I'd hang a tear sheet at the library too.

Good Luck, but please don't put it in peoples mailbox...because unless you have put postage on it, that's a federal offense.

She's right-- but you can put them on doors or newspaper holders.
Good luck!

Can I fold it up and put it between the flag and the outside of the mailbox?

I just heard on the radio show Brain Brew that you usually have to send 3 different fliers before most people will respond. Not sure if that applies but I thought it was interesting.
You might just fold up your fliers and stick them in their doors (like between the door handle & wall). Churches do this all the time.
You might be able to get some recommendations from a local school if you ask. When I gave piano lessons I asked at the school for interested parents and got 3 students that way. Hope that helps.

I think you are allowed to stick things on the outside of the mailbox Amy, but not on the inside.
Good luck!!~*Michelle*~

Great idea Amy, you could also fix up some business cards. I was pretty shy about doing flyer or cards and "being pushy" but a few weeks ago, I had a mystery shop at a local Papa Johns....they had a bulletin board so I put a business card on it...a lady called me a couple of days later wanting me to sell some clothes for her. So I say go for it..... if you get one call it will be worth it.

Julia, Patrick, and I got up yesterday morning and around 7 am walked around the neighborhood and put out the flyers on the outside of mailboxes. We put about 40 of them out. I have more made and we may do another street or two if the weather gets nice for tomorrow. It's yucky out right now.
No calls yet, but hopefully they're just thinking! My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com
