Recycled Soda cans
Another way that my Dh decided to try to recycle soda cans. He was talking one day with a guy that he works and that guy told him about it. So we decided to do it. He happened to find a empty buket and cleaned it out. He puts a trash bag in it the when we get done drinking soda we tip it upside down in the sink to finisjh draining. Then put it in the bucket. It dosen't necsary have to be soda cans any type of alum. can. You can talk to some of the other people that you work with that bring can drinks to work with them to see if you can have there can. The place around here pays .60 cents a pound. So we havent took any in yet. We are waiting for it to build up first before we take them in. That is one way that we are getting a little extra income in. I even having my mother save her soda cans for us.

An idea for you, sometimes you can ask companies to save them for you from what their employees use.

Great job!!
There is no program like that in our province, however the province next to us has an excellant program. However they do not allow us to bring our cans in from here.

Here in the state of Massachusetts, we have a "deposit" program - they add $.05 to each bottle/can of soda (or anything carbonated - beer included!) when you purchase it and if you bring the bottles/cans back to the grocery store or liquor store you get $.05 back. Of course we save all of ours, I pick over the trash at work and the dumpster. When we were kids my family used to just pick them up off the side of the road. Its a fun way to make a couple of bucks. I don't know what that works out to per pound.

In Michigan, for years we've had a $.10 deposit paid on each pop can/bottle, etc... I rarely drink pop anymore since I'm trying to limit my sugar intake. Plus, it's such a pain to return them. There is always a line, the floor is sticky and usually some of the machines are full or jammed.

how do you find out if your area pays for recycled soda cans? They have a regular recycling program here, people put stuff out once a week for the recycling company to take. I'd really like to save cans to turn in, I just don't know where to get started.

We are a cub scout family and are always collecting bottles and can(worth $.05 each) as a way to pay for outings for the boys. Instead of hitting the families up for money every time we ask that the boys bring whatever they have at home for cans to the first meeting of each month and we'll take care of them. Parents seemed relieved to not have to keep paying out money and to get rid of the cans as well. It also makes the boys much more aware during walks around town. A nickle is a lot of money to an 8 year old!

We don't buy soda too often, but when we do, I save them and bring them to the grocery store. They give me a receipt that I then use as cash when checking out of the store

Hi everyone, I had a thread about this recently. Someone asked on this thread how you find where to recycle your cans.
I only get 29 cents a pound here but I'm still doing it for the environment.

OKAY, just found the answer to my own question - the above site lets you enter your city to find places that pay for recyclable materials.
