PayPal's new "micro" payments rate
Here's what they emailed me:
Micropayments pricing is for transactions under $2.00 USD. The fees are 5%
+ $0.05 per transaction. Merchants who wish to use PayPal's micropayments
pricing will need to open a new PayPal account and submit a request, along
with a new PayPal account ID, professional contact information, and a brief
statement of your intended use to: micropayments@paypal.com It can take up
to 7 business days to receive a response.
Merchants who receive both "macro" and "micro" payments should maintain two
separate accounts: One account to apply their standard rate to "macro"
payments and a second account to apply the "micro" payments rate to their
micropayments.
PayPal's micropayments pricing is available to U.S. merchants accepting
payments from U.S. buyers.
Basicly, you have a separate account for the micro rate. If you do the math the fees don't even up until you reach a paymet of $12.50, 67¢ either way.
