    Exclamation Let's make some money!

    90% of the money threads seem to be focused on saving money.  It's great to find ways to cut back on expenses, but after awhile, you've probably done just about everything you can think of to save money.

    So, the next thing is to generate more income.  We did this several months ago-might have even been last summer.  Let's focus on making money.  There are quite a few new people posting, and people are always looking at ways to increase their income.  The purpose of this thread is to help out other people find ways to supplement their income, and to increase the amount of supplemental income your already bringing in.  For me, this will motivate me to take the time to list more items on ebay to sell.

    I dislike accounting, so it is rare that I keep track of the money I make.  If no one else joins in, then I'll just keep track of what I'm making on this thread.  So, whether you want to earn extra money to go towards:   debt reduction, the EF, your vacation fund-Let's make some $$$$

    I want badly to make extra money. I have been trying so hard to find something to do from home. I am thinking of starting growing african violets and rooting them to sell on ebay. You can take one leaf and make a ton of plants and I see people selling them on there everyday for a lot of money.
    I would also love to find a typing job from home but have done numerous searches and come up with nothing that seems legit. They all want money and I don't think it is real.
    Surveys are another thing but it doesn't add up fast. It is great once or twice a year to get a decent check but not something you can depend on.

    I have been making extra money for a long time from my home business and by selling items at flea markets. My home business is Watkins products and I buy inexpensive items from wholesalers and sell at a low mark up at flea markets. I just recently started making jewelry and taking that to sell also.

    I did this stuff when I was working full-time also.

    I have been thinking about doing something on ebay but have not. I worry about the expense of shipping and handling. Maybe I will check it out further

    No need to worry about that expense...the buyer pays for the shipping and handling (if you add handling)--not the seller (unless he/she chooses to).

    ebay is always good, but its money hard earned, it is a lot of work
    i bartend at the french canadian community centre my fil runs..me and dh share...i do the less busy doesnt end quite so late functions....gives us a few grand a year...i am fully equiped to do photo mousepads and photo buttons, photo ornaments and photo puzzles..i just have to organize samples and advertise on the online classified sites...calendars arent worth the money...except for me to make as gifts..i'd have to charge higher than staples..even if my quality is way better....

    i'll look forward to hearing more...i'd think those fast denim quilts woud sell well...

    and garage sales...i've had a few and these were my sales
    1-900$
    2-800$
    3-450$
    4-1200$

    not too shabby.....but you have to have some good stuff...and be willing to part with it...at any price....it really does add up....that last 1200 saved us last summer when i stopped working like 4 months earlier than planned

    I teach piano lessons in the afternoons and on the weekends. I've been on hiatus since the week before Matthew was born, so, I look forward to picking them up again. I used to have a girl that I tutored, but apparently we did so well, she didn't need a tutor anymore! I'd love to pick up another student to tutor because I really enjoy it and it pays well.

    I also sell coupons and other items online and also do surveys.

    I'm in, ShopGirl. With me on maternity leave, dh's salary doesn't cover all the bills, no matter how frugal I am, so I definitely need to be bringing in extra money over the next few months.

    Michelle, thanks for info. I did not know how that worked.

    A couple of questions for Michelle and Cilena since you obviously know about ebay

    Is it up to the me to say what kind of payment is accepted? Or does the person pay by credit card and ebay sends me money?

    Also some people have fancy sites there. I lke the look, would I have to pay for something like that?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
    It is up to the buyer what form of payment you accept (e.g. check, money order, Pay Pal) I highly recommend that you get Pay Pal if you want to sell regularly on Ebay.

    The thing is that you need to get a Premier account with Pay Pal now, which means that you accept CC's through Pay Pal. There is a charge of $.30 per transaction plus 2.9%...that money is taken out by PP when the buyer sends Pay Pal.

    The buyer pays you, not Ebay.

    I am pretty sure if you want to do fancy stuff, you need to know how to code it yourself or pay for one of Ebay's designs.

    I have a lot of auctions up on Ebay right now, and they're all pretty basic, if you want to take a look.

    I hope what I've said makes sense. I've got an awful headache, and I'm not sure I'm explaining things clearly lol

    Michelle,

    Thanks so much. I did go to your site. I could go with one like that. I even did the shipping calculations.

    I am really impressed with ebay. I see that you prefer PayPal and MO's. That could work for me also. Plus I already have PayPal. Mostly for buying stuff

    I really have to think about this. It could work

    Great thread Shopgirl.

    So far what we are doing is:

    ~ Babysitting two afternoons a week (me)
    ~ 2 piano lessons a week (me)
    ~ E-bay occasionally (Philip)
    ~ Substitute teach (Philip)

    I would love to have more piano students and I would love to think of some more ways to make money. The things I do aren't big moneymakers or at least, I don't charge very much. The baby sitting and piano lessons are for close friends and I don't want to charge more than I have to. I've considered getting a night job at a store but so far it just hasn't worked out.

    I regularly sell on ebay. I use www.sellersourcebook.com as my photo hosting site. They also have a lot of nice backgrounds. You can upload a zillion photos and there is no extra fee. I did pay a fee to use sellersourcebook, but I forgot how much it was. It was reasonable, especially if you have a lot of stuff to list.

    I use ebay's turbo assistant. This is a free service. I did use their old seller's assistant and that had an additional fee. I have an ebay store. It makes it easier for people to search for items, plus the cost to list is a lot less, but when I sell something from the store, ebay keeps a 5% commission.

    You'll find that when you use your search engines to locate an item, ebay items will come up. I've found my own things when I've done this. So, yes, it does cost money to list, but the amount of people that have access to your ad is amazing.

    If you have other stuff to sell, you might want to try www.craigslist.com. That's a free site. I've purchased items, but I've never been successful selling anything yet.

    I tried yahoo a few years back, but it wasn't all that great. I've checked into other sites like Overstock and Amazon, but I always decided in the end to stick with ebay.

    Anyone who is interested in selling on ebay should really check out the tutorials on ebay. Their continually adding new features to the site.

    ~~~~~~
    Another way I make extra money is tutoring after school. It's just an hour or two a week, but that money helps out with groceries.
    This has been on my mind lately, I am going to start doing mother's bracelets again and also some custom artwork, my cousin and I will be doing bows and bowholders for sale. I was hoping to throw my first craft fair at my home in September. The area craft shows that I like to go to charge at least 250 just for a space.
