    Default Another EBAY Problem

I've decided I am getting a little tired of eBay. First I had the lady who decided not to buy because of a death- which I understand and didn't want to ask her to pay the charges. So I just ate them. The total charges were nearly $8 from eBay.

Now, over the weekend I had someone use the Buy It Now to buy a signed Football helmet. He paid with paypal. Then he e-mailed me back and said something like he had decided that it wasn't what he wanted and he would like for me to refund his money. The total eBay and Paypal charges were $6 -thank goodness I listed this on 10 cent day. This person has no feedback - new to eBay just joined this month, etc.

So, I was going to e-mail and say that I would refund all but the charges for covering the auction. I see my paypal account and he has paid TWICE. So, now I am a little suspcious and I look at both payments and each one has a different address. One of the paypal accounts is verified and the other is not.

    What would you do?

Sorry you're having such a tough time. I don't have much advice for you though. We got taken for $100+ about 2 years ago and we're much more careful about what we sell and to whom, and we usually say on our auctions that we don't make refunds.

I hope you get this figured out!

I would deduct the cost of the auction and report him to ebay. That is in violation of the contract. He HAS to buy it.

Well, as I think I mentioned the first time, when you had the woman with the death in the family, if you go through PayPal to refund the money, your charges will be reimbursed to you. If you use the eBay dispute resolution process, your listing fees are also refunded to you. You should also notice, when you refund someone all or part of their money, that PayPal refunds you the portion that was taken out for commission. This is automatic, as the commission is based on the price paid. I have refunded people a dollar or two sometimes, out of the total cost, and have seen that part of the refund included a credit to my PayPal account for a few cents of commission.

With two payments for the same item, I would shoot an email off to PayPal and ask them to check into it, telling them that the buyer has stated that he changed his mind, but that you are seeing two payments, two addresses, etc. I have always had tremendous success using PayPal, and they are typically VERY fast in resolving any issues or checking into potential fraud.

I think this person is crazy that bought this helmet. He has now e-mailed and asked for my phone number so that we can talk this out. I am not letting him call me. I am going to go through eBay resolution so that this is taken care of.

The problem is, he does have access to your number. It's part of the ebay end of auction email.

You can get your ebay fees refunded through ebay if the auction wasn't completed. You have to wait 7 days to request it and no more than 45 days. If the guy doesn't want the helmet, then he can relist it on ebay. At least he already paid for it.

Better watch it, the buyer has the right to get your contact info through ebay and will call you, I've had this happen to me right after a person bought something from me, made the payment they called me like 10 minutes later.
