QUESTIONS ABOUT HOME DAYCARE
Hello-
I am looking for some answers about home daycare. I am going to try and watch about 3 children a week.
Could you guys give me an idea on how much you charge per child?:
Baby - age 3 months to age 1 1/2
Toddler age 2 to 5
School age children
How much per hour
How much per day, etc
And any other information that would be helpful to me would be appreciated to the greatest degree................. I do plan on taking the children to school and picking them up............should I charge more for this?

Do you already know the children you'll be watching? If so, maybe you and the parents can work out a deal that both of you think is fair.
Also:
Are you CPR certified? First aid certified? Most people won't leave their children with anyone who doesn't hold these basic certifications.
Different parts of the country have different fees for childcare, so I won't even begin to give advice about that.

And check into the auto insurance you'll need to transport these kids to school. It may be extremely high....your insurance company may not even cover it.
Also, home owners insurance....you should check to see that you have adequate coverage for injuries.
Your agent should be able to tell you.

That is the hardest part, coming to an agreement about money. I think 15 a day is a bit low.. what time is drop- off/pick up? I think average would be 20-30 a day.. lots of variables. I had one situation where drop off was 6am and pick up was 4:30 (or later) and it was 20 a day- not enough in hindsight. Another situation was 7-5 and 30 a day.
Some people make contracts and stipulate the details- a charge for late pick ups, etc... may not be a bad idea.

my son went to a day care 2 days a week (hes an only child and i wanted him to have someone to play with) for half a day 8-12 with breakfast and lunch they charged me 12 dollars. if he stayed all day it was 17 dollars. seems pretty cheap to me since most of the all day kids were dropped off at school, picked up from school and had breakfast and snacks.

I think it is really what part of the country you are in. Call some daycares and ask their rates. I would suggest not telling them why. Around here about $20 a day is normal now, however around the bigger cities it can be as much as $40.
I am sure you have checked but make sure of the regulations in your area. I.E Whether you need to be registered, what that involves, etc.
I have ran an in home daycare and it can be somewhat of a headache in NC because of all the regualtions and visits involved.
Good Luck,

my next door neighbor lady owns a licensed daycare center & i work there part-time. for a newbron (6mths & younger) its $145 a week. for a toddler up to age 2 its $125.00 a week. they don't provide the diapers or formula, thats up to the parents to bring. i would have to say if someone here (indiana) charged $35 a day out of their home day-care, that would be extremely high for this area....i hope i helped you out.

I did home daycare and I was registered with the state. I had to make meal plans, keep track of what I fed the children and every month or every other month I would mail it in and get $ for a statewide meal program for home daycares. I did home daycare for 2 years and decided to go back to work with perks. As far as cost.........I think it depends on your area. Check around and see what the going rate is for people who watch in their homes.

Here in Ca. I was paying $4 p/h for a 3 year old. Preschool was $21 a day. My mom ran an in home daycare for about a year & charged $100 for children 3 & over & 150.00 for kids under 3, 9 hours per day, anything after that was $3 p/h additional. I charge $2.50 p/h, but i'ts my friends daughter I watch, another friend I charge $3 p/h since her child still drinks a bottle & needs to be fed. HTH
