Default Took some things of Gripey's to the consignment store and had an epiphany

You all know that Gripey and I have been living a lifestyle change for almost a year now, right? Well to date, he's lost 71 pounds and I've lost 65 (as of this morning---woo hoo!). You can imagine that we've had to start buying all new clothes from the ground up. Gosh this is expensive! I mean we're working hard, eating right, doing it the old fashioned, hard way (=no pills, surgery, etc...). But it's still expensive when you have 2 people that you have to completely re-clothe. So I decided that I'm taking lots of stuff to the consignment store in the next town over. I mean we have lots of nice clothes that I can't bear to just give to the thrift store. Sssooo, yesterday I was taking in about 12 pairs of Gripey's pants (jeans and dress pants) and I looked around to see if there was anything I needed for myself there. They had some ladies jeans that I liked for $12. I thought, hmmm, think I'll wait and go to the thrift store. So I did. I found several pairs of jeans for $2 each (Yay!). But, while looking I came across some really nice things for $2 & $3 each. I thought about my friend who works in a very high end furniture store and since these outfits were her size I bought them. They were all name brand stuff and had stiff starch in the linen items, etc.. . I thought well if she doesn't want them I can take them to the consignment store. That's when the bell went off in my head! Why hadn't I done this before?! I bought $58 dollars worth of stuff (2 huge trash bags full). Out of this I got 4 sweaters for myself and 4 pairs of jeans and an evening dress (very nice, I'll use on our cruise in Dec.). My friend came over and tried on all the things that I picked up for her, took all but one and paid me $40 (on her own, I told her what I paid for the stuff and asked her to pay me a little over, I was thinking like if I paid $2 she could pay me $4). I argued that it was too much but nothing doing. I have about 6 things left to take to the consigment store to boot. Sssooooo guess what I'm going to be doing along with buying and selling books on half? I'm really happy about finally taking the plunge and now I'm gonna get the items ready to take in plus a bag of dd's clothes that she doesn't want too. I plan on putting all the money I clear into savings possibly for retirement.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

What a great idea! I have a friend who does similarly; she shops thrift stores for brand-name items, and resells them on eBay for a tidy profit. I hope you have great luck in your new venture!

Gosh, that is such a great idea. Sounds like you made out like a bandit! I hope this endeavor goes well. I don't see how you could not make a good profit.

BTW, congrats to you and your hubby on the weight loss!1

First of all a huge congrats on the weight loss of you and your husband!! Very inspiring, as I have a TON to lose. I think your idea sounds like an awesome one. I think before I go back to work from my surgery that I will take a bunch of our no longer used clothes to the consignment store. I do need to take some to the thrift store too. I'll have to try out your idea with my thrift store also. Good luck!
