I sell on ebay... anyone else?
Just wondering if anyone else sells things on ebay. I am just starting and would like any help someone would like to give.
Thanks.

I haven't sold a lot on ebay; only a few little things. We just tried to sell some tyres, but they didn't go, so I'm a little sad, as we could have done with the money.
I have bought quite a few things of ebay though, at times saving tons of money compared to shop prices. It's well worth checking out.
With regards to selling - I think it's a luck thing. It all depends on what you are selling, and what people are looking for. I don't know anybody who will just buy for the sake of it. Main thing is, don't ask too much, as that will put people off straight away (I think that's what we did).
C ya.

I sell on ebay when I can find things to sell. Right now I have some books up, they usually don't go very well, but I still try. Just (yesterday) sold a DVD Set of Dawson's Creek season 4 for $19.50 plus shipping - bought it at a garage sale for $2.
I recently started selling Avon - but not on ebay.

I have recently started selling quite a bit on eBay. I only sell books - easy to pack and ship.
Here are a few things that I have found.
1) Research the item on eBay. People put things in all sorts of catogories - find which catogory your item sells best in. EX. I put on a book that sold in non-fiction for around $12 - but in collectibles it was getting double that price. I had several of them and they all sold for more than $22 each.
2) Have a great title. A couple of weeks ago I looked up a book that I had one like and there was only one and it listed for 79 cents starting bid. It did not sell. I listed mine but added more detail to the title and it sold for $9.99 buy it now.
3) As for pricing - most books I will look up and have my starting price about 1/2 of what the book is actually selling for currently and put a BIN price for a few dollars more. Many times the book will get a bid and the final price is more than my original BIN price.
4) Fine a catogory that you are comfortable with and do lots of research. I know more about books in the last month that I ever thought I would.
5) I try not to list anything that I won't get at least $10 for.
I like to make $100 a week so I put auctions on accordingly. Usually 10-15 and make anywhere from $80 - $225 per week. After fees.
I also would love to hear others ideas. Also, what other items are you all selling.

I sell sporadically.
Funny you should post this, I just put up an auction with brand new with tags girls clothes from The Children's Place (username prfectprincess).
I like to peruse ebay looking up things I'm going to put up, just to get a feel for what things are going for. When we go to sales & auctions, dh usually has a list (in his head and on paper) on what things have sold for on ebay recently so he knows how much to spend on something to make sure he can get his money back through ebay auctions.

I sell Gymboree on ebay and crafts, fabric and slings. I find that it really does depend on the time you start the auction and when it ends. I will dig around and find a site that tells you the best times to place an auction. I also make sure I have my auctions with subtitles just to get all what's selling, to me it's paid off because I get more people looking and bidding because of the additional title.
I also make sure to put a picture up during search. So when someone is scrolling through they see a pic before even opening the auction. HUGE winner there.
I've also learned that placing alot of pics in an auction is a great pay off and offering FRE and FRB shipping wins big too! I never do the zip code thing and never do the email me for quote. I sell for FRE price shipping and up to 3 auctions won free in shipping..because well frankly what I'm selling I know I can fit atleast 4 of them in a FRE or FRB. I like to be fair and that wins customers.

I just started and have my first buyer but the paypal payment isn't showing. It does show that it's pending and I think the reason it's not posting is this message I get when trying to produce shipping label:
The buyer's name and shipping address could not be pre-filled because your PayPal and eBay accounts have not been linked.
To link your PayPal and eBay accounts, go to your Profile and click on the Auctions link in the Selling Preferences column
I went to preferences, but don't see that category (Auction link).
Can you help?
Thank you
Melissa

Selling on Ebay is my hobby and my second business. I have a store and try to keep at least 250 items listed at all times.
It can be so much fun!
You can call Paypal and they will walk you through it. They are great

Wow....250+ items??? How do you keep your costs down? I'm just starting out and I know it takes awile to build up, but with listing costs and if item doesn't sell, relisting costs.... how do you stay above water or at least stay afloat?
You have a nice collectibles store.

I try to keep my overhead low. I use recycled packing materials, buy items at extremely low prices compared to their value. And listing in a store format is generally only 6 cents per month. A store costs $16 a month, but I manage a 3-5 hundred a month profit after fees and expenses.

I've considered doing this part time but so far I've sold two items and I think I'm in the negative due to shipping costs. I dunno. I'm new to this and wondering if it's even economical.
