Thread: Fair rate for home day care

I charge $38 per day which works out to $190 per week.
What you need to do is find out what the going rate is in your area. Perhaps finding other people with their children in a home childcare and what they pay or other providers and what they charge will help you make your decision. You don't want your rate to be over-the-top high where you'll never find families, but you also don't want to short change yourself. It also depends on what you have to offer.
A word of advice would be to have a contract spelling everything out! You don't want gray areas like should they pay for their child's sick days or not?...should you get paid for statutory holidays or not?...etc. You want everthing spelled out so there are no questions or else your friendship could go down the drain.

i think it totally depends on what is the going rate in your area.
here it's around $20-$30 a day. it also depends if you're going to supply snacks and lunches.

My dau pays 25/day for one 3 yr old. Plus every Monday she provides & every child's parent, 1 gal milk, 1 bottle of juice, 1 box of cereal & 1 snack. Plus diapers & wipes when needed. So, what is the real cost per week??

I am a current licensed daycare provider in Minnesota and i charge $31 a day, $155 a week across the board no matter the age. I am also on the food program and supply formula and wipes, offer a preschool curriculum during the school year. make sure that you are VERY clear on your expectations and your price. you also need to be very clear on your sick policy too, when can/can't the child come when they are ill. and if you get sick will you still get paid or not. feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I know this is an old thread bt I would love to see what other's are charging now in their area. I have an in home family daycare and I charge $160 for full time for 1 child $32/day. Covers everything except specialty formula/special diets. Now luckily I participate in a food program and get reimbursed or I would charge $35 a day. I do discount for a second child to $25 an additional child. I also do a parent's night out from 6-11pm for only $20 per child.

There is a difference between a nanny and home daycare. Nannies get paid more because they come to your house and they only watch your children. It's more personalized and you pay for it. With home daycare, the cost of the provider is spread among the number of kids they watch- so it's going to be less expensive than a nanny.

It's a minimum of $60 per day & that's next to impossible to find.

My $32/day includes 10 hours. Now if the time is over 10 hours then I charge an additional $5 per hour.
