Question Does anyone sell things on consignment

The closest city to us has a beautiful consignment store that is jammed packed. I'm going there tomorrow to purchase something and so I was wondering, if any of you sell on consignment.

I'm wondering if it is worth the hassle. I know come next year, I'll have some almost new winter clothing and thought I might try the consignment store rather than having a yard sale.

Anyone?

We live way out so I figure I won't get many people out here for a rummage sale so last year I sold some stuff on consignment. I think most people do it the same you get half of what it sales for. I wasn't real pleased with the owner of the shop she asked for everything to be on hangers. So i had to buy pants hangers. I lucked out and the children's resale shop I go to was moving and she put all of her old hangers out for sale. What upset me the most was she kept all my hangers. (store policy I was told.) She was also very rude. I did however make $170.00 off of about 15 pieces of clothing so I did better than I would have at a rummage sale.So after all of that I would sell through consignment again if I could find somewhere else to do it. I won't go back to that shop.

I do this all the time, and make out very well. I used to have garage sales in the past, but it's a pain in the neck. This is much easier. I can take up to 6 items a day, they have to be washed, pressed and on hangers. (they give me the hangers back.) Items have to be in style, and have no stains, excessive pilling, etc. By setting these rules she takes in quality stuff, and gets more money for it. I get 50% of the price. I can pick up my stuff that doesn't sell in 6 weeks, or let them donate it to charity. The charity changes every 6 weeks. I've had very few unsold items. The money I make goes into the clothing budget for new purchases. I know people that go to garage sales, pick up great stuff for a song and re-sell them at the consignment shop!

I just switched consignment shops because of the "snooty" factor. The woman told me in so many words, do not even bring me stuff unless it's Limited Too! I found a new shop yesterday with the help of SIL and I was pleased. They were very pleasant and didn't look at my stuff as if it were garbage.

I sell on consignment when I have alot to get rid of at once, but know I can't get enough for it by having a yard sale. Sometimes I sell clothes on eBay, but this "declutters" them out of my house faster.

When I lost 150 lbs I sold all my clothes at consignment and bought all new clothes with the money I made.

I have been selling things at a consignment store for about 2 years now. When we moved here three years ago we brought WAY too much stuff that just didn't fit in with our house. I get 50 percent of what the item sells for and have done really well. I keep track of what sells and have had very little not. I just added up all my sheets from when I first started taking things in and I've made over $1400.00, I just darn near fell over!!! What I do is when it is time to grocery shop I pop in there first, pick up what I have made and head on to do my shopping! The lady running the store is so kind and I know what they are looking for, condition etc. so if I don't think she will take it I will take it to Salvation Army or elsewhere.

Yes,but a lil differently.A local church holds a consignment sale 2 times a year and I've sold once(wanting to do more but each tiem we end up on vacation )I earn 70% while the other 30% goes to charity and what I don't sell I can either keep it for another one or donate it to charity,I donate it.
