Ds is having dental surgery Tuesday, 7:30am
~I had to spend a lot of time this last week in doctor's and dentist's offices and on the phone with insurance companies, the doctor's office and the surgical coordinator to make this happen within a week of his diagnosis. The first dentist we saw didn't have an OR opening until next month.
We have to leave the house at 6 in the morning. My mom is coming to stay with dd. DH got off of work.
I'm a nervous nut right now so may I ask for prayers?
Ds is my baby. I just get so upset thinking he won't understand that we can't go with him and strangers want to gas him.
Sometimes, parenting really hurts.~~Constance

You bet it does - thank goodness you are getting him the care that he needs. Prayers and aloha to you and your son. Please let us know how he's doing and take care of yourself.

I know exactly what you mean. It's hard!
My DD had dental surgery, too!! It's really not so bad. The staff were wonderful, as I'm sure yours will be, too.
My DD was up and at 'em like nothing happened within an hour or so after the surgery.
Sending calming thoughts and prayers your way!

I completely get it, Constance. I was in the exact same boat this summer with Wesley and it felt like my heart was breaking into a million pieces. The decisions we have to make that are for truly for the best are often the absolute hardest. I'll be thinking of you, ds, and dh tomorrow morning.

I'll be thinking of you guys in the morning.

I know some places will allow a parent to go back while they are gassing the child, so the last thing they see before they close their eyes is Mom's face. You could ask if this office allows it?~Jessica

It is hard and it does suck. I feel for you. I'll be there in November. I'm sure he'll be up and at 'em before you know it. It is wwwaaayyy harder on you than it is for him. Prayers going up for your little one.

~Thanks for the prayers and hugs and concern for us!
Tuesday was definitely the hardest day of my life so far but we made it through. The surgery lasted an hour longer than estimated(although I was prepared for that since doctors tend to underestimate to ease parents apprehension).
We did this all so fast that I wasn't fully aware of everything medical that would be needed. Ds had two sticky monitors on his chest and a finger pulse taker put on before going to the OR(those are a BIG deal to kids with SID).
I felt so guilty telling him to go with the nurse, like he would never trust me again. He held her hand and went though.
He was gassed, an IV inserted just in case, a tube down his nose to continue anesthesia and a Tylenol suppository. In recovery he still had the chest monitors and IV.
He did not come out of the anesthesia well. He sucks his fingers so he instantly tried to do that and freaked out. He is the most pitiful crier anyone has ever seen(trust me on this). I'm so glad DH was there. He's so calm with the kids. We stayed for about 45 minutes while they ran a bag of fluids through the IV. Ds puked 5 or 6 times(bloody, can't believe I wore nice clothes to the surgery. what was I thinking?). He wouldn't drink the juice they offered him.
He immediately improved when we told him we were going home. All afternoon he just sat on the couch watching videos. We got him to drink a little but he only tasted the soft foods we offered. He puked a few more times at home but he didn't seem upset by it. Ds has probably thrown up 4 times in life so we hadn't had to teach him yet about getting to the bathroom to do it. Well, at least he's learned that now!
The next morning he was much improved. I got him to eat a banana and that was the first food he'd eaten in 36 hours. That's when I started to finally feel better, more relaxed. My kids are so skinny you can see their ribs so when they don't eat I get really upset.
The experience has been awful. I'm trying hard not to think about dd going through the same thing in two weeks.
I learned some things about myself through the experience and ds's teeth are healthy now so those are the things I'm trying to focus on.
I told ds 'they' fixed his sick teeth(didn't say 'dentist' because I'm hoping he doesn't connect the two places) and gave him robot teeth(metal caps on a couple). He wanted to see then and he actually smiled when he saw them so that made me feel a bit better.~~Constance
