Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Does anyone suffer from O.C.D.? I have had it pointed out to me that I have some serious O.C.D. tendencies. I took an online test and it looks as if I do have a mild case of it. I wash my hands, have food issues, and have deffinate personal boundries. Does anyone else have this? If so do you take meds? Just wondering.

Where is that test online, we can pass? I am very curious and interested....I am a bit a germ freak....I hate being like that, but I know it's not that bad. Let's just say, I hardly get sick, because I do wash my hands often, but I consider it normal if I am coming from shopping or have been cleaning...

I'd like to take it too.....
I'm also a hand-washing freak, but I always thought that was from nursing - we wash our hands constantly when entering or exiting a patient's room.....
I also have food issues....heaven forbid my food should touch - still hate it ~ but when I was about 14, my mom had to resort to buying "cafeteria lady" trays for me to eat off of - she was tired of watching me eat on 5 different plates with 5 different forks.....I also cannot eat - say - corn if I've already started eating my mashed potatoes....
There are a few others - just too odd to go into - but I'd really like to take that test online!!

My compulsive disorder would be getting up many of times in the night to make sure the doors are locked and everything is turned off. After I leave the house, I also stress over whether I forgot to turn anything off. I actually panic over it. I also have the handwashing thing. But I don't know if that is because I work with kids all day and there are germs everywhere.
I'd also like to take it.~*Michelle*~

Yes, Debbie that is the one I took. I am glad to know that there are others out there. I thought I was just kind of a goof. I wash my hands about 15 times a day at school. Not quite as much at home. I finally realized that it was kind of strange when I had washed my hands 4 times from the time I got up, not including my shower, to the time I left for work. I have gotten to the pioint where I can't stand touching door knobs in public. I also worry about the iron, coffee maker ect. Michael has been very, umm, well if not supportive, then tolerant. I did ask him to drive all the way home to see if we had turned off the iron one day, it was off too. He has replaced all our old things like that with the kind that turn off by themselves when not used for more that a little bit. Our coffee maker turns off after 2 hours. I did a gogle search one night on O.C.D. and I was astounded at the number of sites that came up.

Oh man!!!!! I scored in the mid 20's!
OK, so I already knew that I was what I considered "borderline" OCD, but now it looks like maybe it's a bit more than that. I have obsessive health issues, rechecking locks, making sure things are off, worry about loved ones, etc..

I scored 23....
I know I make efforts to surpas some things which bother me...but if I am worried that I left the stove open, I will walk back inside and check and I really look! lol or else I will be worried.
Do you think all these behaviours has something to do with insecurity? ......I know I am an insecure person. I seem perfectly fine, but inside I feel insecure sometimes...

I have a rough time with "did I remember to...(lock the doors, turn off or unplug this/that)" hand washing, checking on the kids, it goes on and on. I have been diagnosed OCD for at least 8 years now.

I was so much "worse" (for lack of a better term) when i was first diagnosed. I am currently in therepy for my mental health issues, among the many, being my OCD. I am getting better with the help of my therapist and behaviour modification techniques we have begun to use.~~ Missy ~~

Ok, so I thought I was a little more OCD-ish than what I scored. I figured that my hand cleaning drive would have scored higher, but I guess its not as strange as I thought.
I scored a 6.

Oh no, Melody is "normal"!!!!!
That's ok, you can hang out with the rest of us OCD types, we still love you. Plus, if you left, we'd obsess that we somehow did something to offend you and our scores would go even higher!

ROFL you ladies! Before you drive Mel out for being too normal, and the rest of you wonder what to take to cure you,
just remember that everyone has the seeds of some kind of disorder. We all have weak areas in our bodies and our minds that under stress will break down or break out into some disorder/disease process or other.
The test is just an indicator that there may be problems. Here is the watershed question
Does it affect your quality of life? In other words, is it getting in the way of living?
A couple of you mention things that suggest it does. That means you go talk it over with a pro, and get not one but two or more opinions. Why? (because margery is OCD too!)
LOL ok probably I am, (edited to add, my score was a 10 which means probable OCD according to them btw) but the reason I recommend 2 opinions not one is because it's good to hear all the available options for treatment.
Options, give you choices, and you are in control of how much treatment you take, need or want, and what works best for you.
Dr Phil has another way of phrasing it-- He asks "and howz that workin' for ya?"
So if it is getting in the way of living, seek change, and utilize whatever agents of change work well for you, therapy, drugs, both together, and which therapist feels best.
Some therapists "click" better for some than others. It's ok to go for more than one opinion, and you don't have to go for the first therapist you find.
edited to add, the questionnaire, when I took it had several questions to cover that--is it getting in your way? concept. That is important.
I also noticed that this site offers a counselling service, which means they are biased towards finding evidence of OCD which they can then help treat. Which gives them incentive to find more people in trouble with OCD than otherwise perhaps.
