Is ADD linked to Depression??
I have ADD & recently I was entertaining thoughts of how much better the world would be without me....

I'm just wondering if there's any relationship......
I didn't want to be medicated for the ADD, but I will if I'm always going to have a propensity toward depression.....
Any input appreciated.....

No input but lots of hugs. I've been on meds for depression for years and really don't think I could function without them. I've tried a few times and those were not good memories. Hang in there and make yourself a dr. appt., keeping in mind that lots of other conditions will make depression flare up, especially thyroid (that's me).
Hugs because you deserve then and I think you rock every day all day long.

Debbie, I don't know much about ADD or depression so I looked them up. Here is a link:http://add.about.com/cs/depression/a/depression.htm
I know you can get through this. You are such a fabulous woman, we need more like you, not less.
PM me any time if you want to talk.

Approximately 30% of those with ADD Also suffer from depression, however, I think the numbers may be higher than that. The reason being is if you are an older adult who was not diagnosed properly when you were younger the many years of frustration and pain from that can build up and cause depression, especially when finally finding out there are now options out there to treat it.
Many years they told children to just get over it, or treated it as something worse, or people treated these children as if they were trouble makers and if you happened to be one of those children the many years of dealing with it can be very hard.
Here's a nice list of ADD treatments without medication:

I don't know you well but I do know the world would not be better without you! Keep on talking about your feelings, and sharing with people. Don't give up. You have support here! There is a forum for ADD support here: http://www.addforums.com/forums/index.php?
I hope it's ok I posted that!
Huge hugs!

Debbie, I always enjoy reading your posts, and I personally think you are a very neat person
If you do not mind, could you give me in detail, your eating habits? And also any over the counter meds and perscription meds you may be on? Also, what are some of the biggest stresses going on in your life right now. Life can get the best of all of us at times, but we need to keep on keeping on and realize that God has us here for a special reason Debbie. And do not forget that you are special!

Bubblewrap Buddy!
I'm sorry that you are feeling so blue as to ever think that the world would be a better place without you. Deb, I know that there are many, many people who would be lost without you starting with your precious kids and extending out to people like me who have come to love you dearly and who's lives you have brightened tremendously.
As for the connection between ADD and Depression, yes, there is one. Of the many adults that I know with ADD about 1/2 of them suffer from depression. I also used to watch my ADD students and now watch my ADD son for signs of depression. I think that trying to reduce your stress, eating a good diet and getting lots of rest should be your first step. If that does not make a big difference, please my sweet friend, go and see a doctor about some antidepressants. I love you and really hate to see you in any kind of pain.

ADD almost always manifests as depression with anxiety as one ages - its just part of the packeage - you should talk to a family doc about meds that would treat both - perhaps starting on a lower dose med like Pamelor will will alleviate the deppressive symptoms and any nightmares -
I take Prozac because it addresses my symptoms of add and depression and anxiety - specifically - I don't cycle down as hard and I have the ability to think before I respond (impulse control) - I used to take 10 mg. of Pamelor as well to get rid of night terrors and anxiety attacks while I slept - classic indications include sleep walking, jaw clenching, teeth grinding, and enuresis. I hope this helps you to decipher what might be going on.
