Vent/Whine about Neighbor & Dogs!!!! Grrrrr!!!!
I'm not so much venting about my neighbors dogs as I am about my NEIGHBOR!
A family of 7 people and 14 horses, 1 cow, 7 dogs, 1 Llama, and 1 burro, moved in across the street from me about a year ago.
The first night they were there, 3 of their dogs got out (fence and gates not made to keep dogs in) and killed a neighbors prize winning chickens and goats! One dog was shot but not killed and they were mad that somebody shot at their dog!
These dogs have been nothing but a menace since they moved here but it's not the dogs fault, it's the owners and they just don't get it!
Animal control has been to their house numerous times but each time the dogs run back into their yard so are 'protected' from being removed from the property. They have been told that they will now be fined $187.00 for EACH dog that they find 'off' their property but it does no good.
I have now called animal control 3 times and only the times when they have literally chased me back into my house! This included being chased by a MinPin mix, Chiwhawa, 1/2 wolfdog, 1/2 pitbull, and a mixed breed hound dog. The kids are rarely in school and have asked me why I carry a stick to the mail box and I've told atleast 3 of them that I have been bitten by a dog before and I'm afraid of dogs. So, they know!
Thursday I was chased by the wolfdog and hound dog and called animal control. The guy was great but can't do anything unless they bite me or are caught out of the yard. (the dogs always head back to their yard). He just leaves warnings on their door since when he shows up they are either not home or won't answer the door.
So Saturday, I'm finally outside, digging in my flower beds. The neighbor walks down the road with a 'new' DOG, a MASTIF!, on a leash. I go in the house when I see him and don't go back out till he is out of site. I go back out, digging and transplanting, and all of a sudden a dog is barking and growing at me not 6 feet away! It's that MASTIF and he's off the leash!!!! I scream and stand up and can't think for a second and then I grab my hoe and stand firm and yell "get back' like the animal control guy told me to do. The STUPID neighbor guy says "Chill, he's just a puppy." I said "don't ever tell me to Chill when there is a dog barking at me and I have been bitten before!" I was almost frozen in place and told the guy to get out that I was scared! "He said "oh, he's just playing with your dogs!". He yelled at the dog and chased him and put the chain back on his leash and then he left! I stood there shaking for a minute then headed for the house and told dh what happend. WEll, dh is tired of it all and knows about my fear of dogs so he got really ticked off and flew out the door and walked to the neighbors, and yelled at him and chewed him out for letting the dog off the leash which is against the law if the dog will not respond to 'voice command'.
Anyway, this ruined my 1st day of gardening for the year and when I went back out to try to garden, I just sat there and broke down and cried and cried so I finally put my tools up and went back in the house.
I'm going to call Animal Control on Monday and tell them what happend on Saturday. I have a lot of fears which is also part of my disability and these people are just making it worse! The guy/neighbor is nutty, doesn't work, stands outside and cusses at his wife (bad stuff) and she just tells him to shut up and go take his medicine. She works for an escort service in Las Vegas answering the phones and is rarely home. He is very wierd....."Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."

I think what makes me so mad about this last incident is because I just KNOW the guy let that dog off the leash to be a butt! He knows I'm afraid of dogs and he knows I've called animal control on him and I think he was trying to get back at me. Saying he was just letting him play with my dogs is rediculous! My dogs are in a fenced yard and have only gotten out 1 time in over a year and that was due to a bad wind storm. I don't want my dogs 'playing' with other dogs due to diseases. I can't imagine letting your new dog off the leash to play with strange dogs that you have no clue what kind of diseases they might have!!!
Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! I am still so mad at that jerk!

Get a BB gun, or, if you're up for it a SHOT GUN. If they are on your property threatening you, shoot them. A BB gun will sting and send them home in a hurry. The shot gun? 'Nuff said.
I am a huge animal lover and love dogs to death. However, you should not be terrorized in your own yard. In most states, the law says you can kill any animal that kills your livestock, so the dog should have been dead by now.
You neighbors are idiots.

Animal control doesn't do anything....... But if a postman got bit or a cop or you know what I mean they would be taking that dog......... I have cat problems, and its nobodys job to get rid of all the cats. I would try a get thee dog and then call animal control. I think if you are going to have animals or kids take care of them.
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

My 2 cents here:
Put up a no tresspassing sign in your yard
Immediately document this incident in writing
File a complaint with the local police department
See an attorney to clarify your rights
Notify animal control
When you are in the yard, keep a big handful of dog treats in your pocket. If the dogs come up to you, toss the treats on the ground and then walk away while they are eating the treats.
Last, read up on dog language so you remember what not to do around a dog. Things like staring them in the eye is seen as agression and can provoke an attack.
Your neighbor is a jerk and should not be permitted to even keep animals. He clearly can not and does not care for them properly. I hope animal control takes them eventually and finds them better homes.
