Do you or your children make a wish on the "wishbone" of the Thanksgiving turkey? We used to call it the "pullybone" when I was growing up and we always broke it and made a wish on it. We even pulled the wishbone on chickens. My mother always cut up her own chickes for fried chicken and we children would take turns getting the pullybone. If you did wish on it, which side one, the long or the short? We always called the short side the winner but some of my co-workers swear that it is the long side that wins.

I've always done that too with any poultry breast bone. I do 'long side wins', but as long as your consistent then who cares? Any opportunity to make a wish imho. I still do it. Kids or no.

We do long sides wins. My daughter Isabel really wants to do it, but my f-i-l insists on doing it with my husbands brother. It annoys me because isn't it supposed to be for kids?! I let Isabel pull the "wishbone" off any whole chicken I cook, so she gets frequent chances for "wishes", to make up for the lost Thanksgiving tradition.
This is one tradition I never knew existed until after I was married. I did not even know what a wishbone was!! Man, did I miss out on a bunch of wishes growing up!!! I could have won everytime since there only two grandkids I was 6 years older than the other!!!
We do long side wins and only use pinky finger to pull, lol.
