Default Are you hosting or being hosted for Thanksgiving?

We're hosting here. I think we'll only have about 13 or so of us which is nice. I'm having a hard time being excited about the holidays (first one without my mom) but I'm trying. I'll be doing her famous cornbread dressing (there's a recipe in the cooking forum for it under Mamma's Cornbread Dressing) and her pumpkin pies for the first time. It's gonna be bittersweet for us but we're gonna make the most of it b/c we have 2 other older family members who may not be here for many more. Gonna take lots of pictures this time.
We'll be having the traditional meal, way too much of it. What about your Thanksgiving? What will it be like?

We'll be going to Orlando for the Pop Warner Cheer Off. Whoever formed this program felt that Thanksgiving Day and the Day after were perfect for a competition. This will be a regional things with kids coming from as far off as Tenneesse. Our team of about 75 girls will be having a large group meal in one of the banquet rooms at the hotel.
But for me this is not unusual as my family has never celebrated Thanksgiving in a traditional manner.

We will be alone -- pretty usual for us these days. Extended family is in another state and doesn't get together anymore. I always try to find someone to invite, but I've only had one taker over the years. Everyone either has someplace to go or I suspect doesn't want to "impose." If I felt it was an imposition I wouldn't extend the invitation. We've tried to volunteer -- but there is no lack of volunteers around here and we are usually turned away.

I usually cook a turkey -- good thing we like leftovers. Other than that it's pretty much just an ordinary day.

DH and I are going to my MIL's. It'll be just the 3 of us. I'll be bringing a couple of side dishes and a dessert.

We'll be hosting my husband's family from out of town plus my family. We're expecting about 20 people. I plan on serving turkey and a Honeybaked Ham. Some of my husband's relatives will be staying with us and others in a hotel.

DBF and I will be going to my grandparents' house. The family is coming for Christmas, so there won't be much of a crowd on Thanksgiving - grandparents, DBF and I, my uncle N. and maybe a friend or two of his if they have nowhere else to go. Another uncle may come if he happens to be in town (he travels a lot for work).

Hosting! I'm so looking forward to it. Usually it's just us & the kids and sometimes their significant others but this year it'll be 8 of us. Mark is solo but my dd is bringing her boyfriend and my sister & her 2 kids will be here too.
I'm trying to incorporate their food traditions into our meal too and haven't heard back so not sure what else is on the menu but so far...
    Turkey
Cornbread, sausage & celery, onion & mushroom dressing
    Gravy
    Mashed potatoes...

Hey Laurie, enjoy your dd's cheer extravaganza. My niece who is a runner has to be in another state(lives Delaware, think has to go to Alabama) for a race day after Thanksgiving. Who times these things?

We'll have the usual both times.

It'll be just us here at home....both of our families are across the country, and we aren't getting together this year. I kinda like the quietness of it, though.

I'm house sitting for my oldest DS next week, he's going to Mississippi with his wife for her family. My best friend and DD will come over and we're all going to cook together. This will be an interesting Thanksgiving. My DD recently went totally vegan and we're going to incorporate things that she can eat (mashed rutabaga with soy milk and earth balance) just for her and separate for bf and I. Same with mashed potatoes and stuffing.

Later in the afternoon my younger son and his girlfriend are coming over for games and movies. This is always a blast. We yell and scream and laugh till we cry.

    Can't wait!

I'm co-hosting at mom's house. I'll do the baking and the cooking will be a team effort. We never know exactly who will show. We know there will be at least 14 with the possibility of the high 20's.
