Keeping Busy...
So how many of you have taken on other jobs, activities etc. to earn money or keep you busy since becoming empty nesters?
I'm finding with all this uninterrupted time and a rain day on my hands, I am more likely to get my crafts and sewing out to work on them. Which is good because I eventually plan to sell a lot of this stuff. Still, I guess I just never expected all this time to do things! It's kinda weird, but kinda nice too. A friend came over today and we worked on our projects together. It was nice.

I'm not quite there yet... my oldest boy is not living at home now, but my daughter is a senior in HS and youngest son still has 5 years to go till graduation. I'm almost 50.... I am looking forward to having some time for myself. I'm not sure if I'll get a job or not then, but it might be nice to have the opportunity to think about myself for awhile.

I didn't notice any extra time at the "empty nest" stage - I still worked full time and we tried to travel as much as we could. Once the grandchildren started coming it seemed I had LESS free time than before.
But since retirement (1 year) I've started doing a lot more volunteer work. There is a HUGE need for people like us (my dh and I) who are still healthy and able to drive and have time during the day.
I deliver Meals on Wheels a couple times a month and work at a Community Meals program; my dh is a Middle School mentor and volunteers in the grade school, too. We both help provide transportation for people from our church who need help getting to doctors, etc.
I am loving retirement and am delighted that I have the time I can give. It also helps me to not feel quite so guilty about doing what *I* want to most of the time!
