Default Anyone have any experience with assisted living?

I have an aunt and uncle who are very well off. They are about to enter an assisted living facility due to advanced age and some health issues. My dad has started asking some questions about since they made their announcement. I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience or possibly works at one. I have some questions that I'd like to talk about in pm's or email...... Anyone?

My mom was in one for a while, before we had to put her in a nursing home.

PM and maybe I can help.

Every state is different in the rule and conditions of the assisted living facilty. And some of them are quite pricey! Hopefully your family researched it carefully.

Not sure what kinds of questions you have.

My MIL has lived at one in NC for about 18 months. She loves it and we have been very impressed with them. I'm sure they vary widely but we have had a good experience with this one. When we visit we take her out for some meals but eat some of them in the dining hall there and the food (choices and quality) is actually quite good - that says a lot!

This one has a "pay for services" structure (rather than an all-inclusive) - she pays a monthly amount that includes rent, utilities, meals and basic services, including some medical needs. (A percentage of her payment can be deducted as medical expenses - they sent a statement in Jan with the amounts.)

Then, as she needs more help, she pays by the hour or by the trip (for shopping, e.g.)

I'm happy to answer more if I can help.

All I know is that the ones around here cost an arm and both legs. Once the payments can no longer be made out you go. Even being somewhat well-off is no guarantee, you may outlive the money to pay for it all.

I worked as a nurse in an Assisted Living for a couple years and quit that job and then became employed for the state. My job with the state was to inspect Assisted Living facilities to be sure they were maintaining the care standards required by the state. I traveled quite a bit and saw many, many Assisted Living facilities. PM me with your specific questions?

I helped pick out the one my grandmother moved into. I saw all levels of facility. She ended up in one that my folks liked so much they want to move there when they can't live alone anymore.
PM me if I can help. Good Luck as its quite a project. We looked. called and questioned for about 3 monthes before choosing one. We went with a religous owned one for many reason.
