Question Once retired, what do you plan on doing?

Now that we are both retired, we plan on doing some travelling and more of our hobbies.

I want to do missions trips, as long as I'm physically able. . . medical missions, church missions.

For me, retirement means never having to work for someone else. That's why we're investing into real estate (although we started out bass ackwards...)

So when I retire, I'll keep maintaining our properties (one day it'll be plural) and otherwise just do...whatever I want.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I retired in May 2007. I really thought that we would do a lot of traveling, and we've done some. But gas prices stifled us some on that. I also wanted to keep on teaching part time, and I'm doing so. I plan to continue this until SS kicks in. I'm slowly learning to relax. Little things that give me pleasure now include sleeping late, entertaining company more, taking time for hobbies and charity work, and seeing family more.

My dream is to take my first year of retirement and just be very, very lazy. Read a lot, sleep a lot, veg out in front of the TV.....

Then I want to travel, do some DAYTIME Bible studies at church (never been able to do them during the day due to working), some missions work, maybe help out at my school when needed---stuff like that. Also would like to start a small business, but I'm not sure what.

I'm not 100% sure. I'll be pretty broke so I probably won't be doing much traveling. I'll need to do most of the traveling I want before I retire. I guess I just won't work and will do crafting and such.

Well lets see, my husband retired 3 years ago at the age of 57. I thought we would do some traveling but the company that he retired from called him 6 months later and wanted him as an outside contractor and to go to China. He was back and forth for 2 years. By the time he was done the arthritis in his hips set in so bad that last September he had hip resurfacing. It is more intensive than hip replacement but lasts 10 years longer. He is still recouping from that so our travel has been nil. He plans on having the other hip done the end of this year so I don't even feel like we are retired. When everything gets straightened around I want to travel. Now that I made this a novel I will shut my trap.

When my FIL retired, my MIL (homemaker) told him she was retiring too. She let him know in no uncertain terms that it was not going to be all hobbies for him and just more of the same for her. They negotiated and came to what they both agreed was an equitable division of labor. And that after 45 years of marriage. They both traveled, did what they enjoyed and had a happy retirement for 9 more years. May God rest both of their souls.

    Rosey.....
We have traveled the Delta Queen for 5 cruises, and I really lament that Congress will no longer let it sail. It is awesome......... And the DQ is the smaller ship; you have it correct.

Not around this house. We are a team. He helps with dishes, helps with the cooking and is often asking me what he can do to help.

For those who wanted to travel and weren't able to because of high gas prices - we found ourselves in the exact same boat. It was frustrating to say the least. Hopefully they will stay where they are now or come down further and maybe, just maybe we will get to do some travelling this year.
