Question At what age do you plan to retire or do you think...

In today's economy you will be able to retire has planned, especially if the economy stays this way for a long time.

I'll be able to retire as planned -- just not sure I'll be able to change careers as I'd hoped.

I retired just after I turned 58 (turned in resignation when I was still 57). Really, I thought I would teach until I was 65 or so. But the finances worked out, so I turned in my resignation and enjoyed the retirement party!

I don't want to/plan to retire until I am atleast 60 years of age. I want to be able to have a career that I competely enjoy.

I am sure I will probably work until at least 70. I would like to retire earlier but I don't see how I could be financially secure before then and I don't want to spend my retirement years worrying about how to pay the electric bill or purchase groceries.

DH and I plan to be semi-retired at 50. That's working part-time (or fulltime if we want to) at jobs we love vs. our current daily grind of high paying jobs that will allow us the life we want later on.

I retired about ten years ago...at 40. As in....dh and I decided that I wouldn't work anymore. He hopes to go to part time (24 hours...still gets benefits) at 55. I'm paying extra to have the house paid off by then....

I'm a ways from retirement, but dh will want to by 65 at the latest, so I'll be doing the same at 61.

I've calculated, that after the debt is paid in a year, if I invest in myself for 15 years(making me 51) I can retire and live off the interest. I'm calculating at a very modest 3% return. I know there are better out there, but I'm scared of those right now.

I'm officially "retired" from my past job. . . although I occasionally do some free lance work for them.

Now, I'm a professional knitter, and pattern designer.

I am eligible to retire at full pension at age 54, so I'll be leaving the working world in 2019. Mentally, I may leave a bit sooner.

The legal age of retirement here is 67, you can retire earlier if medically required, but it comes with losses to your pension plan.
(If you can afford it, you can, of course, retire whenever you please.)

I cannot imagine retiring at all. I might want to go part-time at some point, or perhaps move to my little ivory tower and only do fancy theoretical work :-) But giving up work? Eek! I would have to look for a lot of new hobbies then! (And, honestly, teaching is so much more fun than scrapbooking!)

I was self-employed in a business where I did a lot of traveling in a 5-state area, was active as a volunteer and on lots of committees, while taking care of 2 high-maintanance parents and my MIL, and one teen still at home. The perfect sandwich generation situation.

When the parents passed-away within 18-months time (talk about stress), son left home for college (talk about relief), I decided I've HAD IT! I sold my business and said I'd spend some time taking much needed care of myself, for seemingly the first time in my adult life. Best decision I'd ever made... I've really enjoyed the last 5 years.

I can save nearly as much money by being a stay-at-home as I made working, and I love my peaceful (for the first time in years) life. No need for "professional" clothes and shoes, extra eating out, and all the paraphernalia, including vehicles, cell phones, hotel bills, etc...

Hubby, on the other hand, is a well-paid professional who will only retire if he absolutely had to because he loves what he does. He's worked for the same place since he got our of college - 34 years next month. Can't ask more than that!

I still plan to retire at 62. Had I been able to find the house I wanted in 2001 instead of the one I bought which is on the market now, I'd be in better shape.

As an RN I have no worries of losing my job and for that I am very grateful. I just don't want to work like this until I'm 70.

Once the house is sold, and now, I'm saving like crazy. In the end I should be OK. I plan to retire simply and without a car. I'll have to get my wanted traveling out prior to retirement.

I'm mostly a Stay At Home Dad, but I'm also self employed.

The way things look now, I will not be able to retire.
