Default Vision changes as we age

Well, look on the bright side, at least you have a problem that can be corrected.

I've had Macular Degeneration since I was 30, and it slowly gets worse. It affects the central vision. I have blacked out spots that I have no vision.

It isn't too bad yet, I can still drive (not at night) and work, read some, use the computer.

    Count yer blessings!

I've had bifocals since I was in my early 40's. I've never had problems......

also getting them at a private eye doctor is better than those eye clinics or places such as visionworks etc. they make the lenses much better and I never have a problem adjusting.the cheaper places never make them correctly.with progressives it's very involved and has to be precise to turn out well.

I took my current frames into Shopko to ask about getting progressives in the smaller frame. They said, yeah, no problem! Really? No one has ever said that. They said there are new lenses available to put the progressives into a smaller frame. Of course you'll pay for these new special lenses, but for me, it would be worth every cent to have a frame I like.

I'm not there...yet. I should have had bifocals at least 5 years ago, but as long as I wear reading glasses over my contacts, I'm fine. Or take my contacts out/glasses off. I'm due for my eye exam in March. I'm thinking of seeing about Lasik surgery. If not I'll be doing the bifocal contacts and glasses.

When I first got progressive lenses I sometimes felt as if I was shorter than what I really am. Just give it a couple of days and you will never know the difference.

I now have contact lenses. Supposedly I do not need progressive lenses with them. They gave me a stronger lenses in one eye. Turns out it is cheaper to have contacts for a year than to purchase progressive lenses. But real close up work I need the readers to see what I am doing. I don't care anymore. I have a nice pair that I will wear when I need to do something where good vision helps. Pretty soon I will make a necklace to hold the readers.

I'm 42 and just started having trouble with my eyes this year. I've worn glasses since I was 13, but now I can't see everything with my glasses on (like the time on the cable box, street names/numbers), and when I'm wearing contacts, I can see far away, but not close up! VERY frustrating. I'm wearing drug store readers with my contacts on and just plain cannot see certain things with my glasses. Guess I'll be getting the progressives soon!

The do take getting used to, like move your head slowly so you won't get headaches. My dh had macular degeneration & take omega 3's and they have helped his eyesight. His Dr. even asked him what he was doing & to keep it up!

I'm intrigued by the Omega 3's and their effect on eyesight -- I think I'll give it a try and see if it helps me any! Thanks for the tip!!

Thankfully, I only wear the $8 readers from WalMart!! I have what my kids call "Impressionist Vision" - without my glasses, trying to read is like looking at an Impressionist painting!!

DD#2 had Lasik a couple years ago and is very happy with the reults. She is an airplane mechanic, and has to wear safety goggles a lot, and hated wearing them over her regular glasses or contacts. Wish they had Lasik for Impressionists!

Ok I've adjusted but still need to take off my glasses to really see close up in detail. I do a lot of jigsaw puzzles and like to see detail in alot of my daily activities so I find myself taking my glasses off and looking at things close up. I'm lucky I can see as well as I do, I just thought getting these glasses were going to be the total fix. I hate whiners so I'm done, lol. I'll deal.
