Letting go & giving myself a hug
My family & I are growing & every so often something happens and makes me go wow. Today was one of those wow moments. I wasn't expecting it but there it was. I'm ok with "it". For so long I've been worried about this kid going here & doing that and the other one doing...all of the sudden today I was just happy that they are just doing. Everything was as it should be... they are strong wonderful young people and I am so proud and they are ready to do their thing. Mark (he's in his last year of HS.) went on this job shadowing thing. He wants to go to college to get into business administration and marketing. Well he went off today and spent time with someone in marketing in popular business industry. I was so impressed with what he learned in one day and they seemed to really enjoy him. He was so selfassured and positive I was awestruck. He'll be off to college soon.
Nicole is changing gears and is going towards becoming a k-6 grade school teacher. I'm so glad she decided to follow her heart. Many of her credits will transfer over to her new game plan. She'll be moving out at the end of August to go to a college close but not that close to pursue that dream. This all means that both my babies will be out of the nest. A very big thing in my world but something that I am smiling about and you can be sure I will shed a tear here & there but I am so proud and so happy and looking forward to what happens next. Wow.

Wow is right. I know you are so proud of them for all they are accomplishing and their goals. You should be proud of yourself and your dh for raising them to be such responsible young people. You're doing a wonderful job Darlene!!!
(((HUGS))) for the times when those tears will flow and for more proud moments.

Awe Darlene, your post brought me to tears. What a wonderful new beginning for your and your dh.
I know with you behind your kids encouraging them every step of the way, they can only do great things
btw - our oldest is a teacher too and he taught gr 5-6 for a number of years. He now teaches gr 8-9 and loves it.

Did those of you with kids flying the nest have a hard time letting go? Or did something just happen to make you go "everything is going to be just fine"?

Darlene, remember how it was their first day of kindergarten. Thats how it felt for me.
But if you know you've done your best, everything is going to work out fine. Yes they may make mistakes but thats all a part of growing into mature adults.

Ah my friend, I know you have been feeling really sad about this happening and all at once too. I can read between the lines you know.
You and Jack have done a wonderful job with Mark and Nicole. They have good heads on thier shoulders, a lot of self esteem and the drive to get where they want to go and be in life and it is all due to you and Jack being behind them 100%!
Feel proud my friend, you deserve it!

Your post didn't make me cry, I was smiling. I'm sure you've done a good job with those two. When I see how wonderful you are with the people here at the village it tells me that caring and compassion, that common sense you've got, it comes from being a great mum.
My Shane's been living away from home for about 15 months now. At first it was tough but it was also satisfying knowing that I'd put in the hard yards and that now all that work was paying off. I'm really proud of how both my boys turned out.
There comes a time when you just have to face it - it's time for you to test your mothering skills and let them go to fly solo. When the time comes, and Mark is out on his own establishing his new adult life, there'll be saddness but I'm sure they're also be the joy and excitement of watching him find his place in the world.
You did good Darlene.

You can be very proud of your children and very proud of yourself, and your dh for raising some very well rounded children.

Congratulations on a job well done Darlene. Mothering is the toughest job in the world and when you do it well the most gratifying.
MY oldest is just finishing highschool and starting to think about moving out. He has overcome so many obstacles and needed so much care that I am terrified for him (and for me). But I am excited too because there is so much to look forward to for both him and for me and DH.
