Menopause Questions
When does this typically start - not from a books perspective but from any of you with real life experience?? And when It does do you quit having periods??
I went to get my depo shot and they made me sign a waiver that I would not take it more than two years because of the impact it has on bone density. I have been on 1/2 year already - I am 42 (dec 2004) I really like Depo cuz there are NO periods. So I am kindof wondering if I am up for menopause anytime soon (like say in a year and a half

Peri-menopause can start at an early age has can menopause.
For me, it didn't start until 52 and I've sailed through it with no problems whatsoever. A few hot flashes which were stopped by drinking ice cold orange juice.
Also in most cases you don't just stop your periods. They are sporatic for a few years and may be heavy or light.

Can't go by me Kimmee, I had a hysterectomy in 2001 and they left one ovary. I don't have periods obviousy anymore, but I have horrific hot flashes. Don't know why they call them hot flashes anyway, not one of them has ever been a "flash"!

I had a weird menopause, exacerbated by my mother dying and a few other things. I was 45 when I started menopause and had virtually no problems except my periods stopped and started a few times.

Kimmee, I am 40 and have started having symptoms of menopause. However, I am waiting to get test results to see if I really am menopausal or just hormonal
Actually, it could be my thyroid. So give me a couple of weeks to get the test results and then I can answer you

The average age is 51. A lady at my church went through it in her early 40s. At what age did you start your periods. I think sometimes the earlier you start you tend to start menapause earlier.

I have been tested for menopause, and they say it could be but that I am very young.....but I started my period when I was 8, had them every month until about 6 mths ago and while I still have them they are not for seven days or near as heavy. Typically they are about 3 days and very very light!!!!! My doc wants to test me again next year and of course if my periods totally stop to come in!!!! As much as I would hate to have to endure menopause in my late twenties/early thirties, I would love to never have a period again.........
I do have hot flashes, and I agree they are not flashes. Sometimes I go from being extremely cold to burning up. Every month, my period gets lighter and lighter though...........
