Too Young for That
Have you ever noticed that as we get older, all those other people seem to just be too young for their jobs? I feel so weird going to a doctor or dentist that looks like a kid. LOL Right now it seems we may have to change dentist due to the hygienst leaving and there is a nice dentist that goes to my church. I'm sure he's a great dentist, but he looks like a teenager. So am I the only one who's noticed this??? Do you feel weird when the professional treating you is way young?

Yes especially if they are in their late 20's, early 30's I do.

I HAD TO REPLY TO THIS THREAD!!
I was flying out of a small commuter plane in Montana last summer. There was literally wildlife off to the side of the tarmac. The co-pilot steps out from behind a curtain to give us the details of the flight and I SWEAR TO GOD, he wasn't even old enough to shave!!! Ok. Yes - I am a nervous flier but Holy @#$%% !!!!! Freaked me out big time!!! So yes - guess I'm getting older and (of course) I'm sure I'm not showing my age!!! Ha!!

Haha. You also got to think about some people looking young for their age too. I have a friend that's 22 and he barely looks 14.

I'm not so worried about normal people, because I don't feel my age, I think they are all my age. lol What really does freak me out, though, is the average age of professional ball players! They are so young!

This is going to sound crazy, but even I, at 23, can see this. I had to go back to the University for a meeting the other day, and I walked past a bunch of first-year students that looked not a day older than 12. I just kept thinking, I didn't look like that when I started University, did I?

I generally don't mind the cradle robbed professionals -- I tell myself they have the most up-to-date training. On the other hand, when I look at some of our medical students ... no way. Not if I was lying in the street writhing in pain. (Well, maybe then!)
However, I'm quite intimidated by the youngsters in the electronics stores. I know I'm computer dumb, but I really feel it then. I can almost feel them rolling their eyes.
What bothers me most, is that it is hard to remember that the college students I work with do not have years of work ethic and work experience behind them, and are often clueless about things we would just take for granted as appropriate -- or not -- for a work environment. We have a few gems right now, but that is unusual. Usually it's an uphill battle. Still, they do add some life to a sometimes very dull job!Donna

I tend to feel more comfortable if my dentist or doctor is older than me. Last year my dentist was foreign and didn't seem to be a day over 18, he had no bedside manner and was maybe good at his job (but not good enough for a freaked out person in their late 20's to sit through more of his work.) My new dentist must at least be a few years older than me and has a very calm, kind demeanor. I think that age matters in some instances, the dental assistant is my mother's age and it's so comforting. When I have a baby someday I want a seasoned medical staff on hand, not someone that looks like they were a baby not too long ago themselves

Even though I'm only 24 and only left college 2 years ago, the students (mostly freshmen) I have as a teaching assistant all seem SO young because they are 18.

Growing up people ALWAYS thought I was older. No one ever correctly guessed me age. Already being 5'5" by the time I left middle school didn't help
At 14 people thought I was graduating high school, when I left for college people thought I'd already been in college for years. At 20 I was usually thought to be 25. I think it's finally slowing down now and maybe I actually look my age.

I don't seem to have that problem. Mine goes the other way. It's kind of wierd to see a new doctor and think "Hmm, this one's a little old to be doing surgery..." and then realize they are YOUNGER than I am. I don't think I am too old to do anything!

I have noticed it. But I guess I have worked in the health care field so long that I am getting used to it. I work for heart surgeons and I the next to the oldest in the office...all the docs are younger than me...a little scarey, but I make it thru...

My managers are all babies
Most of them are in their thirties, and I remember when I was in my thirties, I thought I knew everything. A couple of managers in my store are in their 20's. The youngest manager I ever had was 21. It freaked me out!
I get along really well with the younger managers, though. Well, except for my store manager...he's a jerk. I just look at him and think "I'm so glad my boys didn't grow up to be him".
