Retired? Getting Ready to Retire?
I recently retired after working 25 years at my job. So far I am enjoying my new and different life. Anyone else retired or getting ready to? Would love to compare notes, etc.
Right I am floating with joy. Not sure if I will still feel that way in 3 or 4 years
How do you all feel?

Hi vannie, congrats on the retirement.
I'm kind of retired. Let me explain. I closed down my business a few years ago to live the simple life. My DH retired from his mining job 8 years ago. He got bored and 6 years ago we bought a store which we now run together, he 5 days, me 2 days. We have the store on the market now so hopefully we'll sell it soon and we'll really retire.
I am so looking forward to that day. I have a million things I could do here at home and we want to go on a trip too. We also want to fish. There is so much waiting for us.

Thanks for congrats Rhonda. Wow. You guys have had a very busy life and still do. I hope all goes well with the sale of the store so you can start to enjoy "the simple life". It sounds as if you are really ready to make a change. I am really blessed. I started making plans about three years to ago to retire. I gave my office almost two years notice. Never anything in writing I just let them know that I would not be around forever as they seemed to think I would
No one could believe that I was ready to go.
Hope you will share the good news when you do retire.

DH is considering retiring after one more year of teaching. He might teach part time for a few years to ease into the change.
I am not at the right age yet to even think about it.
Congratulations Vannie! Enjoy!~~Jean~~

Thanks Jean,
I am still enjoying myself. It is sometimes hard to remember that I have no more salary-eeek! But things are going pretty good with my home business(es)
If your DH does retire, I would put money that he will work PT

Vannie, what home business are you running? I'm currently filling an order for some of my stitchery patterns for a store in another state.

Dh is retired, however he has chosen to work 2 part time jobs so we can pay our van off early. We both love having the opportunity to do as we so wish. If we doesn't want to work, he doesn't have to. We'd be fine financially even with the van payment, however we want to do some travelling next year.
Congratulations on your retirement. Enjoy it!!!

Actually, I do several things and combine them. I sell Watkins flavor/extracts, pantry and home products. My web is http://watkinsonline.com/ryanes I sell jewelry that I buy wholesale and also make and I am a vendor. Sooo--I take a few bottles of flavors and my catalogs, etc; some jewelry and inexpensive trinket-type items to flea markets.Originally posted by forestdale

I also get some sales from my Watkins site. I change it with the seasons
It seems like a jumble of things but it works.

You and your DH have the right idea. I will probably always do something to earn extra money. It makes life so much easier.

Yes, I suspect he will. We have been TOLD by others who have retired and are doing the half-time route that the retirement income is nearly the salary they made while teaching full time, and the part time income is "gravy". Our plan is to sock that retirement "gravy" away for as long as he can stand teaching part time.Originally posted by Vannie
