    Default Barry McGuire

Was listening to some old cassettes the other day and heard Eve Of Destruction, and as I sat there listening to the words I realized nothing has changed.

Funny you mention that. I always do a unit with my students on music and it's meanings. Eve of Destruction is one of the songs that I use to illustrate that music can be used to send a message to the listeners, and one of the kids said "Wow...that could have been written today if you changed the country names." (like Red China, etc.)

(sigh) You're making me think of our collection of old vinyl in the basement. I sure wish our old stereo worked better so I could take a trip down memory lane.

turntables are pretty affordable nowadays and I'm thinking of getting one and hitting the thrift store for a lot of the oldies.

You know, I was talking to my nephew who is in the lighting and sound business for theatre, and he claims you can buy turntables for under $150 now! My beef is getting a new needle for my old turntable. We might be forced to buy a new turntable just so we don't have to pay $75 for the needle! Also our turntable is hooked up to a receiver that isn't working properly. Oh well...time to go shopping...
