It's Official
I'm a member of the empty nest club. Mark just left and I went in his room & had myself a good cry.
Happy for & so proud of him. I know you all understand how you can be so happy yet so "emotional". Guys just don't get it. "Aren't you happy?" Well sure I am, it doesn't mean I can't be a little sad at the same time. Letting go is not like flicking a switch.
Can't wait to see what happens next.
Thanks for letting me voice some thoughts on all this the past few days, it's really something.

I hope you are doing ok! I have a hard time with change and would have a hard time letting go, also.

Darlene, letting our children go out on their own is not easy.
I don't think men have the same emotional attachment as women do. I know when Richard left, I cried for 2 days. Knowing that he is happy and that joining the Marines was what he wanted helped ease the transition for me and I still have two others at home. :-) It is ok to cry. We are all here to give you that shoulder to lean on when you need it. Transitions are hard!

I know exactly how you feel Darlene. You'll be much better after a few months of adjusting to your empty nest. Before long you'll be loving it. It is a strange combination of feeling though. I'm a pm away when you need to chat

Thanks my fv buds. He called from his motel room so I can rest easy he's made it fine. Just so wierd to see him off on his own. So much in the past week or so, talk about whirlwind. Pick him up at his dorm on the 18th, dd's graduation from college on the 19th. He flies out to No. Carolina on the 20th. Stays 'til Sat the 26th when I pick him up at the airport & then leaves on Monday 28th for a hotel room in Binghamton til the 1st when he moves into the house with all his friends. Whew. He's having the time of his life, not a care in the world just has the idea that everything will work out & be wonderful. Wonder where he got that from?
Life is good and often sentimental.

I can totally understand!! When that day comes I will feel the same way ~ our kids mean the world to us. Feel however you need to right now, it is expected and normal! Sounds like you have a great relationship with your son and you will always be close!
Just wanted to send you a big hug!

Feelin' for you! Mine is spending his first summer away - in between soph and junior years at college. He had 4 days off last weekend, and then went back to Austin. Somehow I keep expecting the partings to become easier, but I just bawled after I got out of sight (I was headed for work as he headed out of town the other direction). I REALLY like my empty nest, though - so I hope you adapt as happily!

Since someone bumped this up I figure I might as well give you an update.

He's doing well in Binghamton, at home & work. With this job of his he's really meeting all kinds of people as he stops at an average of about 30 businesses a day and is making some nice sales and future contacts. Having a good time scouting out the neighborhood and has been playing tennis in his down time.
Nicole will be moving soon and we've been packing when she can find the time. Busy with a new job & that makes it tough. Her apt is so nice & she can't wait to get in there. Going to be nice having her less than a hlf hour away compared to an hour.
I'll probably be going to her place today to help her finish up the packing.
Busy bunch and the tears have stopped for me, lol. I'll be glad when she's all moved in and things can get back to "normal", whatever that is.
