When going through menopause do you plan on?
taking estrogen or do you plan on taking herbal remedies to get through the hot flashes, etc. Or have you even thought about it or discussed it with your physician or gynocologist?

CJ I've been through medically induced menopause (complete hysterectomy at 25) and I take estrogen. Just let anyone try and stop me! My family would move to another state if I didn't so I don't think things will change here......... . The risks are really very low of side effects, current news reports considered. The risks of me committing some terrible crime without estrogen are much greater

I had a hysterectomy at 46. I have been on hormones ever since. If I get cranky my DH always asks if I remembered my pills? LOL!

I take soy estrogen now and black cohosh and it has done wonders for me. I am trying to talk my mom who has been on premerian since her hysterectomy at age 40, to get off from that and go with the natural stuff.

I was thinking of taking Remefen. I have 2 months free samples.
I took HRT for 3 months. Didn't see any difference in me so I stopped taking them. Then the news came out and said not to take them unless you just had to.
I am going through menopause now. Well, the doc that put me on HRT said my levels were low but the new doc asked me why I used to take them cause my levels were fine.
But I definetly know I'm just not right!
Has anyone tried the Remefen? Just curious if it helps."Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."

I'm 45, and have no symptoms yet, but I think I would try natural remedies when I do considering the latest findings on HRT. My mom was on HRT for the last 10 years and as since gotten off because of the latest studies.

I just turned 40 this year and I also have no symptoms of menopause yet my Mom went through it very early (she was in her mid 40's) I am really uneducated when it comes to this entire issue and really need to become informed before it hits me!! If I had to make a choice I would prefer to use natural stuff!!

I have two really good books on the subject of Menopause.
Smart Medicine for Menopause -Hormone Replacement Therapy and its Nataual Alternatives by Sandra Cabot, MD
Breezing Through the Change -Manageing Menopause Naturally by Ellen Brown & Lynne Walker.
I like them although there may be others out there even better."Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."

I'm just starting some of the "changes" after my hysterectomy (1) ovary left. I had several month's of hot flashes, not looking forward to going thru that one again. But I must admit I really do need to learn more about what's going to happen and what I'm going to go thru. If at all possable I'd like to go with natural remedies, but I want something aproved as well.

I too am in menopause, I am 42 and had a hysterectomy last year but I have one ovary left.
I do not have hot flashes - I have HEAT WAVES
that can last from 1-10 hours or more! Ladies, these are NOT fun! It is sometimes difficult to function and do everyday stuff.
I have come to the conclusion that a MAN named them hot flashes!
I would like him to experience one day in my life!
Now that revenge would be sweet!
No, honestly I don't wish this on anyone.
I would also be interested in any info on herbal remedies.

I'm leaning to pills. I may try black cohosh but all the soy stuff is out for me, I'm badly allergic.
I have minor hot flashes, wake up sweating several times a night, sleep naked with no covers for part of the night even in winter.
Periods are so heavy though and really annoying. They stop and start on their own timetable NOT MINE!!!!!
The memory thing really bugs me. I'ts like I lost more than half my brain, and words I know refuse to come out when I want them to in normal conversation. Technical terms I"ve known for years take up to 4 or 5 hours to dredge up from the back files in my memory bank.
My memory is completely unreliable now.
Gimmme drugs I say, good drugs!!!!

I tried the soy stuff and it didn't do didly. In fact I got so estrogen depleted that it caused my heart to act up and I didn't sleep a night for 6 months. Nah, I'll be for stayin' on the estrogen....thank you very much.

I've heard eating 1/2 cup of roasted soy nuts helps some women.

I have a strange/funny personal menopause story.
The day my mother died, I was 45 years old and I was having a period. When I was told she had died, I stopped bleeding! even though I'd only just started. I didn't have another period for 6 years, when I was 51. When I had this period my best friend Kathleen thought she was pregnant (she was then 42) and she totally freaked out about it. Anyhow, I had a period for 3 days and when she started her period, I stopped!! I have not had another period since. Kathleen and I still laugh about that.
Apart from those strange goings-on, I've had absolutely no problems with menopause. It's been a wonderful time for me and knowing I will not fall pregnant again is a great bonus. I know that many women have problems with menopause but I really hate how the process has been medicalised. Menopause is a natural process and unless you're really sick with it, I don't even see the need to tell a doctor about it.
Having said all that, the push here is to take phytoestrogen and I know many women who have successfully taken phytoestrogen powder and pills and also some who eat foods naturally high in phytoestrogens like soy and linseed. They sailed through it like I did.

I intend to use natural remedies, if any at all. I have been in "peri-menopause" for about three years now. I have had a few hot flashes, but not many. My last two periods were almost ONE YEAR apart. That is OK with me, I was never too fond of them anyway. I just turned 43.
