When do you feel is the best age to retire?
Before 50, at 55, 65 or not at all.
Dh is planning on retiring at 60 and I'm so looking forward to it. Personally I would love to see the retirement age come down to 55 - 60. It gives everyone a chance then to spend some time having "fun".
I often here of someone who has waited to retire, only to pass away withing a very short time of retirement. I'm so glad my dad got to enjoy those "golden" years after his retirement. He was forced to take an early retirement due to health, but my parents had so much fun when he retired.

I agree 55 would be a great age. My poor Daddy, all his friends were a little big older then him. They had plans for years on what they would do at retirement. Most died within a year of retiring. By the time he did, all his lifelong friends had died. He ofcourse has had other firends, but by now everyones health is poor.

I agree 55 is a good retirement age. It can be done with careful planning, but you have to start early! Most people are not thinking about retirement at 20 or 25, but the money that you put into retirement saving then is what can make a huge difference 30 years later (thanks to compound interest).

Dh retired from the corporate world over the summer at age 45. He now does what he loves to do........refinishing furniture in his workshop. He has no stress anymore, and more time with dd's and I. I think if you can become FI at a young age, then go for it and enjoy your life!

I retired early but, my DH loves being a firefighter so much, he doesn't want to retire till sixty. I wish he would retire early but, it has been a blessing all these years that he has been in a profession he loves so much.
