Default Thrifty Thursday, May 19 '11

Today won't be thrifty so much as so busy I won't have time to spend. I've got an appointment with my mortgage broker, some houses to visit with my real estate agent and then I work a shift at the sports bar where I waitress (its my part time gig. I'm booked from 11 am until about 11pm...so as long as I don't fall in love with any houses today, my money will be staying in my pocket.

Breakfast will probably be a fried egg and a slice of toast (or it'll be my usual oatmeal if I become lazy). Lunch is tricky because I'll be on the go, probably a tuna sandwich, carrot sticks, popcorn and an apple eaten in my car between appointments (must remember to bring gum or my toothbrush so I don't end up with fish breath!). Dinner??? I'll have to dig through my freezer and see what I find...I can always get a meal at the bar but I try to avoid our deep-fried menu as much as possible so I don't pack on pounds.
I want to kill my mortgage! 192,391/197,370 (since July 2011)

I'm attempting to live by the principles of The Compact in 2012. Wish me luck!

    2012 Financial goals
    • make an extra $15k over and above any flying pay (1705/15000)
    • pay an extra $1750 off my mortgage (557/1750)
    • bring EF back to $10k - $3533 left to save
    • avoid lifestyle inflation
    • improve investment plan (change accounts) - *grumble grumble* Bank made a mistake, need to re-do paperwork

    The Financial Goals I've achieved:
increased RSP contribution to $300/mth, posted budget on FV for review, saved $1600 to go on vacation

Well it is still rainy here. Need to pay the cable bill and vacuum. Already made some soda bread for tomorrow. This evening will be meeting up with friends to go to a dinner at a church. Can't wait since the food is always great!! Plus there is a flea market so will just look. Love being able to eat some greek food for cheap.

I have a moms night out tonight so I'll have to be careful about spending--I'll definitely just be drinking water rather than an adult beverage!

It's rainy and cool here today so DS and I will probably stay inside to get things done. I need to:
~ Do three loads of laundry (hope to dry most of this on the drying racks)
~ Make some banana bread with some bananas past their prime. This will save me from throwing them out!
~ Cut and organize coupons for a coupon swap scheduled for tomorrow.
    May Goals:
Only $300 for groceries this month - $206/$300
    Monthly coupon/valued customer savings = $14.08
    No wasted food!
    Stick to budget!
    Track spending DAILY
    Get checkbook balanced
    Save $200 toward EF: $85/$200

2012 FV Challenges: Try New Recipes Challenge: 22/52, Menu Planning Challenge: 21/52, Grocery Reduction Budget Challenge, Change Jar Challenge: $27.81 as of 1-14-12, Lose A Pound A Week Challenge: 3/48, No Wasted Food Challenge

    2012 Goals

    1. To pay off CC (only $917.15 left!) and never again charge more than I can pay off each month.
    2. Snowball the CC payment into Sears Credit Card bill (no interest) and get it paid off ASAP.
    3. Snowball the CC and Sears card payments into hospital bill (due w/ Baby #2 via C-section in mid-January). Pay that off ASAP.4. Snowball payments into DH's student loan (as of 12/4/11 there's still $4770.84 remaining). Pay off by 12/31/12.
    5. Keep our grocery budget to $300 each month.
    6. Use Dave Ramsey's budget sheet and get on track with this each pay period.
    7. Get and keep checkbook balanced and keep an eye (weekly if not daily) on our e-statements.
    8. Get savings account up to $8,000 (incl. emergency fund)
    9. Make 2 Christmas gifts per month: 0/24.
    10. Get our home organized: use a receipt book, keep my coupon organizer in check, have a touch-once policy for paper (touch once and then file or toss).
    11. Achieve "give or get" goal of $1500 for the board I serve on by 9/30/12.
    12. Taxes filed by March 17.

I can't believe it is the 19th of the month already!

It's cloudy (sigh) again, and today is shopping/errand day. I'm going to Aldi's and Giant Eagle (loss leaders at GE).

Going to try a few new things at Aldi's.

Not a frugal day at all, went to get an oil change for the car and ended up roaming wally world with my fiance, and picked up some extra things we didn't really need. Came home and worked on some gifts that I'm making for a birthday and baby shower, made a new wreath for the front door. About to make dinner for the kiddos.

It was rainy and dreary here today.Went to the gym this morning, then out to pick up some gifts. We have five graduations, two baby showers, two anniversaries and two May birthdays.I feel overwhelmed! Made pizza at home, walked my dogs and drove the mule to the creek to pick up rocks for a flower bed.The dogs splashed around in that cold water and had a blast.I had two wet dogs up front with me and one on the rocks in the bed.Hope you had a great day!
