Unplugging help Electic Bill
I was just wondering if any of you have tried unplugging your appliances/electronics when they're not in use. If you have, have you seen a difference in your electric bill? A friend of mine told me she could tell a definite difference.

YOu do. up to 80% of your electronics usage for the year is when it's not in use.
So if you are consistent with unplugging things, it should make a difference on your bill.
Do a search for energy vampires, on the forum or google and you'll learn more about it.

I started unplugging my appliances and also other ghost feeders as well as my computer at night and I can tell a difference. I really don't know the exact amount but at least $10.00 a month or more.
I bought some power strips cheap at Walmart.Jeanna

I've been doing this for a couple months. I saw about a $3 drop. It seems small, but considering last bill was $28.36, it was actually a respectable percentage of my bill.

Unplugging really does help. Our electric bill from last April we used 1700 kw. We received this years April bill and we only used 700 kw. And we have 3 teenagers!!! We really have been watching what we turn on. We have changed all our light bulbs to the small fluorescent ones and only turning on the lights if we really have to. It has become somewhat of a game to us.

Smart Power Strip
Hi,
I unplug my appliances and found a very less electric bill.

mine came down 100 dollars, along with all the other tips on this site.
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

We live in an apt and the only utility we pay for is electric. We save between $5-$10 a month now by turning off powerstrips when we aren't using appliances: like the ones the tvs and computers are plugged into along with all the features that go with them, like vcr, dvd player, printers,etc...

one thing i found is not to turn off the computer all the time. for three years i was turning mine off whenever i left it. well... mine wasn't updating or virus checking . i got a nasty 500 doillar virus that had to be cleaned up by professionals. no more.
so now i do not turn my computer off at all. no problems with it now.11% gross to retirement

YES, it helps.
Know this is an old thread.....but........even my power co. now is FINALLY stating that unplugging appl. works and save elec.
I do some of mine......if they are easy to get to.
I shut off and unplug computer at night.......when I am totally done........unplug the dryer/washer (easy to get to) but not the TV.......(not easy to get to). I have always kept my can opener, coffee maker, and toaster unplugged when not in use.
You have to do what is convenient to start and then decide how much trouble you want to go to with it. Having my microwave unplugged was too unhandy.......and I use the clock.....so I leave it plugged in.........thought it isn't hard to reach.
