    Default Whirlpool Water Heaters

If anyone has a Whirlpool Energy Smart water heater it has a factor defect. Over the weekend, we had the power go out. That night we discovered the hotwater heater was out. The power surge when the power came back on fried the circuit board on the water heater. May parents also have an Energy Smart Water Heater and my dad said the same thing happened to them in November. After doing some research I have found out the original boards are defective and usually fail in the first couple years. Whirlpool will overnight you a free replacement. However, you will still be several days without hot water.

I suggest that anyone with an Energy Smart Water Heater call in and say it is bad now. This way when it does fail you will have the part on hand and can replace it right away. It is easy to replace. Just turn off the breaker. Disconnect the black, orange, yellow, blue, and red wires. Pull out the board and pop in the new board. Reconnect the wires, and turn circuit back on.

The number to call is 1-877-817-6750. You will need the ser# and Model. When that ask what the problem is, tell them the green light is not on and the you checked and there is 220 volts on the red and black wires.

Gee thanks. I wish I had seen this before yesterday. We had a whirlpool water heater that we replaced just yesterday to the tune of $300.....dh has been messing with it for months now due to leaking. Then yesterday it just gave out. Aargh!
