Default Hanging clothes on the line...

Something I just saw in a tip on an email I got:

Hang up your laundry on a clotheshorse or line instead of throwing them in the dryer.

You will save about 950 kilowatt hours of electricity a year.

    Hi Natalie,

This is a great tip, and one my DH and I have been using since the weather has warmed up here! For some reason while growing up, I hated the smell of clothes that my Mom hung on the line, but it's weird that I love that same smell now - It smells like sunshine! We are blessed to have bought an old house (built in 1930) that has a big clothesline in our sunny backyard, so I bought some clothespins, and I actually enjoy hanging out the clothes now. I can tell our electric bill has dropped since we don't use the dryer much anymore. I think I am one of just a few folks in our town who hangs their stuff out to dry.

    Blessings,

I am so glad I have a clothesline in the backyard for those nice, sunny days and a clothes drying rack for indoors for those not so perfect days. :-)

I hang my laundry year round. Very rarely use my dryer. It does make a difference. I even unplug my dryer (electric dryer) when I don't use it. I figure that should help alittle too.

I hang when possible. BUT lately it's been really rainy. I don't have a dryer and have to take the clothes to a laundry to dry. I do hang some around in the house, but you can only hang so many - unless you are my in-laws but that's a different story.

I love clothes from the outside line. I do have to put the towels in the dryer for a bit to make them a little less crunchy!

I hang out our clothes and towels pretty much all year long (Texas). Dh' does it too, but hates it when it comes to the undies and intimate load. LOL.

I'm in an apartment now, so I can't hang laundry outside. The bird feeders on the balcony make that not feasible, too. But I can position my wooden dryer rack in the bathtub to drip, and then move it into the bedroom to finish drying, and it works real well. We are having a severe heat wave this past week, and today I did two sinks full of shirts and hung them to dry, and it took less than three hours to get them bone dry. I have the AC set at 82 to make it liveable, but the bathroom gets real hot with its west wall........

$1.00 saved every time I do this by not using the dryer in the laundry room. Save another $1.25 per load if I hand launder, too. I REALLY need to get back in the habit of doing this - I quit after I moved last fall.

I hang all of my clothes year around on my wooden racks in the house. In the winter they take a little longer to dry but in the summer they are done in a snap (the good ole Texas sun)!!

I have a nice clothes line that i hang clothes out on, plus i made a hanging space on top of one of my dressers using some pipe it will hold 3 loads of shirts @ 15 shirts per load. Then i also have a dry rack and getting ready to install some more drying space in the bathroom. I think i will have enough room set up in the bathroom/laundry room to dry everything that we need!

I have a line in the basement where I hang year-round. The only thing I don't hang are dh's work clothes, as I also don't enjoy ironing. I shudder to think of the electricity bill if I didn't do this!

They just made it illegal in my province to have rules against clotheslines. I have had a clothesline for years, now it is completely legal
I try and hang as much as I can. I really think it makes the clothes last longer. In the winter I use lines in my basement.

Just put up my (umbrella style) clothesline on Saturday. I got it at Ace Hardware. I'm sooooo happy. It's against CCRs in our area, but no one will see it and my immediate neighbors don't care. (one is a stay at home dad who is very cool and one is a super greenie!) We have no neighbors behind us to see it.
