There is an article in our newspaper today (front page, above the fold, no less) and the headline is Natural Gas Bills to Shoot Up 35% ~ good grief! The price this past January was $1.01 for 100 cubic feet and next month it goes up to $1.65 for 100 cubic feet.
We have an all electric house and we are getting an 18% increase starting July 1 ~ yippee skippeeNancy

We use the EPP option for our natural gas. This month is our 'equal out' month and we receive our payment amount for the next year. This past year we paid $69/month and ended up with more than $100 to our favor through better conservation during the year. But, due to the increase of natural gas our monthly payment for this coming year has risen to $87/month, an $18 per month increase.
I knew this was coming so we have already started to do more. We are replacing a number of our windows and are researching the market for a woodstove (although this may have a minimal affect because of the layout of the house).
It just keeps coming doesn't it.Amy

We are seriously investigating a solar panel heater to supplement our gas heat.

I'm one of those with a 3000+ sq foot house. It is my family home. We bought it from my parents 20 years ago. It had oil heat when we bought it and we converted to natural gas. In the winter months our heating bill is $260 a month. I like my house warm...but with a 35-50% increase, I can wear a sweater! Yikes!!! Please say the rising prices will end sometime soon!

I have gas heat, but fortunately, my little apartment is only about 500 sq. ft. On the other hand, it is in an old duplex, is very drafty, and is raised, with the wind blowing under the under the hardwood floor. I was really cold last winter. This winter is going to be worse, I guess, because there's a limit to what I'll pay for a gas bill. Looks like I'd better make some window quilts and just resign myself to living in the dark.

I'm another with a big house. Just been here 13 months. Spent 1038.90 in that time or 79.91/mo. I am close to needing a fill. I think I could go another 2-3 months (would take it to about 65/mo average), but may get a better price by filling up now. What to do!

Gosh, I hate to hear that. I felt like we kept it cool in here all winter and our budget amount is still $156.00! Our house isn't that big (1600 SQ FT) I also have a gas dryer.

My mother will freeze this winter! I know she was cold last year because she kept it so low. I sudder to think how low she'll have to keep it this year to be able to afford her bill!
