Default I am so darn upset....

Ok DH and I just moved into our new home and today I get our 2nd electric bill (first one was small and only for like a few days service).....

OMG it was $207! YES you read write.... I mean HOW? I am super frugal with lights and plugging things in .... I am so upset right now.

I told DH that's it! We can't afford that much of a bill every month especially when our highest bill was $75 EVER! I told him and my DD that we are going to be SUPER Frugal when it comes to lights and stuff.

I paid it but I just hope it's not like that every month, I dont know if I ever want to turn anything on now.

Was that based on an estimate? Or an actual reading?

Did you call to ask them how it could be so high?

:goodluck: I hope you figure it out and that it was a mistake!

Congratulations on moving into your new house!

Wow on the bill, I agree there must be some kind of mistake. Let us know what you find out!

Why do you assume it was a mistake? What kind of heat do you have, how much bigger is the house.....there are lots of things to take into consideration. I don't think that sound high at all for PA in the winter!

Good to see you posting again Tracy...tell us about the new house!!

I'm sorry your bill was high, but man I'd be stinkin' happy to get that bill here during the winter.

Good point. Is your new house bigger than your old one? Do you have electric heat? Electric dryer?

$75/mo is really low IMO for winter especially, and your new bill is closer to what I pay monthly.

Well your last house was a duplex and that counts for a lot. When you share common walls with someone it keeps your house warmer. Also if I am not mistaken the new house is larger and older. That counts for a lot also. I am sorry to say this but I think that your bill will be higher then what you are used to.

I'm glad to your posted, we have all missed you around here.

I was going to say the same. So glad you are finally in the new house how exciting. Tell us all about it . I love big old homes, have a Victorian myself.

I wish that were my bill....lol

My friend from Pa is going through the same for a big older home ,but hers is much more and now she is so upset as her company wants to raise rates customer service 53%, increasing some bills in the double digits, and wants 38.1 million more from their customers soon. She is with UGI Penn Natural Gas. Here is the article she sent some of us.

Yikes it is getting so to be ridiculous the energy costs. Hers is now almost more then their mortgage and she has a new higher energy efficient furnace etc.

Michelle might be right....check into it and see why it is so high. If it is an estimate then maybe that is what the last tenants used per month. Congrats on the new house though!

Could it have had a 1st month's 'deposit' or something like that figured in?

Wow. Is that gas and electric or just electric? Do furnaces use electricity? I'm clueless as I've only ever lived in Southern California and Nevada.

Well, mine was $203 last month, (30 yo 3 bedroom home) but I'm on the average pay plan so they spread the cost out through the year and I pay the same amount each month. Makes it easier to plan for. The gas company will do that too.

Yes, Xtena, gas furnaces use electricity to run the fan which blows the hot air through the house. If the fan is on all the time you are using electric, even if it does not blow heat.

l would love to trade you bills mine was 600.41 last month and the next one is going to be about 800.00?and you ask why, one we have 1800 square house and farm and a 20X26 granny apt(with electric heat we rent out), we know why the bill is so high dh has a heater in the garage that sucks up hydro so lets just say that it is gone so the next bill will be lower we have 10 solar planels and 2 wind genterors just for the house and ground source furance all lights are on a tool bar so without that the bill would be higher and of course hydro went up in price so come the warmer weather our bill will drop down to around a 100.00 a month we are going to be getting a bigger wind generator in the next few weeks so hopefully we will only be paying hydro for the apt
