This is on my list of things to buy this weekend. I know we've lowered our utility bills by doing a variety of things, but I'd like to know exactly what is doing what!
We gave our 3/4-size up-right freezer to my husband's sister. OMG how much that thing was costing us! A lot more than the food savings inside it! Now I get along fine with the refrigerator/freezer. SIL had been using an ancient freezer that wouldn't even maintain 0°F AND it was located in her garage. That thing was costing her a small fortune to use.
Thanks for the source and report.

We own a Kill-A-Watt, and discovered that the older (late 70's/80's) model freezer in our basement did not increase our electric bill much when we inherited it from my late grandmother. If I stopped using our electric almost brand-new model dryer entirely, our bill would go down a few dollars, I think. I'm surprised at how efficient the dryer runs.
Our electric hot water heater seems to be the biggest energy hog in our house. It came new with the house so I'm reluctant to get rid of it for a gas model. Our electric bill runs around $58.00 per month.Last edited by djac99; 02-20-2009 at 05:28 PM. Reason: clarity

Check your television. Newer ones use less power per square inch of screen than older ones do... but the new ones have bigger screens.
The really big ones use more power than new refrigerators do.

Hey Birney, I was going to check with you before buying this, what do you think? I have to do something to get this bill down!
