    Default phone charger usage

We did a 24 hour test on a verizon cell phone charger. The actual phone was pluuged in for 8 hours, the rest of the time we just left it plugged in.

Well, another big surprise. The actual total for a day was zero.
    usage for a week- zero
    for a month- zero
    for a year - zero.

So i guess the chargers for the phones use nothing.

Did anyone else buy a moniter? Was wondering if you have tried it yet.

We called the tech line & found out we cannot test the micowave.

That would make sense since the charger wouldn't be sucking any power since it doesn't have an indicator light or clock or anything on it. Probably most of the things that suck power are those with those daunting little lights that blink or like VCR's that have clocks glowing 24/7!

That is good to know though, becuase DH and I leave ours plugged in all the time. I always think I should unplug them when we aren't using them, but it is such a pain! Glad to know I am not using a bunch of extra electricity!

pinetree- i was under the impression (now i haven't bought one yet so this information could be wrong) but i was under the impression that anything that used less that .5kw per hour (and supposably the chargers use about that) that it couldn't register something that low...

did it say anything in your instructions about that?

and why can't you test the microwave? are you 'hard-wired' in (no plug) ???

if it's warm it's using electricity.
    11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

It has to be using electricty to re-charge the phone. That's weird. Maybe just not enough to register? Interesting.

The guy tested the chargers without the phones plugged in. Most people leave them plugged in even w/o the phone most of the day... I think that was what he was testing.
