But for the 'truly frugal'.... $15 for just the appliances she tested isn't too bad. I really didn't expect it to be super high. And yes I believe it with some exceptions........she was going by her KWH rate so it would be different depending on where you live.

ALSO.....she only checked computers, dvd/r, coffee maker, hair dryer, etc.......she didn't do the washer, dryer, clocks (which I doubt would be much higher than her lamps).....various types of phones. And ONLY ONE.......what about the people that have 4 and 5 TV's and leave them all plugged in, the three bathroom house that has a hairdryer/curling iron plugged in in each room.....etc.

So...do I believe it.....yes,.... but would like to have one of those $30 tools to check mine myself.......don't want to buy the tool.

I think it's way more than that. Don't forget...that is $15 a YEAR not $15 a month. With our July electric hike everyone here in Floridas bill went from 1 1/2 to double ( don't even want to think about Januarysa t 31% ).
Mine went down $7. Yes I did more than unplug..raised thermastat (sp) etc but still
I believe it is way more than $15 a year...in fact more than any $15 a month. Just me tho. I'm a believer.

MORE THAN $15 A MONTH??? Really???

How much would you think then? Have you done any research on line to see if you can find more info?

(BTW.......I did the un-hook the dryer thing........just once......was going to re-do it before I posted.)

I just talked to a lady whose electric bill doubled this past month and her neighbors almost doubled.
Ours went up $15 and that is with the pump having a problem and god knows running for how long with water going everywhere outside and a few days later the holding tank imploding and water pump AGAIN running for who knows how long. Had to be a long time cause we were flooded out there. And it only went up $15. I have everything I can have that dosen't belong to hubby ( he won't buy into it ) and air on 79 where it's been for a couple months since I started this. Basically nothing has changed for a couple months. First month when I started when the increase in bill hit when it should have went up because of being hot it dropped $7. Even with the well pump running 2 different nights for however long consistently it only went up $15. And even hotter than month before.
Yes, I definitely believe it is more than 15 in saving a month. This time last year our electric was hitting $400...now $299 AFTER pump problems.
Don't ask why it is still $299 when we live in the dark cause I haven't a clue. Now you see why I'm an electric Nazi which is what I think they are calling it.

I started unplugging things about 5-6 months ago and in the first few months our bill dropped over $80 and has stayed there so I think it is worth unplugging everything. Most of our things are on stripes so we don't have to unplug everything. Certain things should be unplugged regardless if it's saving you money like the coffee pot and toaster because they are fire hazards.
