    Default leaving oven door open.

when I am done baking I leave the door open so the heat goes into the room... but the light comes on automatially. My old oven you had to turn the light on... do you think I am saving money or wasting it ? I often forget to come back and shut the door.

I'nm going to guess you are still saving by letting all that heat escape into the room. If nothing else set a timer so you come back. My oven light burned out ages ago and I never replaced it.

I leave my oven door open in the winter when I am done baking.
I took the light bulb out of the oven ages ago. I don't need it and it is just wasting whatever energy it pulls.

I have used a thermometer in my oven and I know the temp. is correct. Most of the stuff I bake, I know how long it will take; so I don't "look". Anything new, I just set a timer 5-10 minutes less that what the recipe calls for and check it then.

The heat is going to end up in the room regardless of whether you leave the door open. It will just get there faster this way.

I really doubt it makes a difference in terms of money.

I leave my oven door open after I bake in the winter too! The lightbulb in most ovens is pathetically low wattage so I don't think it costs very much.

. I wash a load of laundry while I bake, then put it in the dryer right after I take whatever is in the oven out. When I bring the laundry up.. I shut the oven door.

What ink said - That heat has to go somewhere, and it can only go into the Kitchen.

The only difference is in how fast the heat of the oven is dispersed into the room.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Good question. I've always wondered that myself.

One mistake I make is when I use the vent fan and forget it. Sucks the heat right out.
