We have a rain soft system. You can really tell the difference. Before, our water was really hard.

We have an OLD system which is broken right now. I hate when it is not working! It makes such a wonderful difference. Not only is our water hard, but it is full of iron and leaves terrible, hard to eliminate, orange stains in the bathtub and sinks, as well as making our white laundy slightly yellow.
Hopefully we can get this system up and running again -- just can't put a new one in at this time.~~Jean~~

No, I have city water and it's fine just out of the faucet. I have never lived anywhere that needed a water softener.

Same here. Our system is older and works OK most of the time. I hate rust stains, my tub is such a pain to clean. I feel your pain.Originally posted by jlxian

We just got a brand new, state of the art system (courtesy of my FIL as a Christmas present) It softens the water, removes rust and sediment, sulpher (no more rotten smell) and disinfects it's self every so often. That's the only part I don't like as it uses chlorine for that.
Every one in the family loves it except me. My exczema flared up when it was installed.

We also have well water which is full of rust. Even with a heavy duty water softener and iron filter, it still stains the appliances and sometimes the clothes. It is a pain to deal with.

LOL -- I have actually scrubbed the finish off the middle section of the tub!!! So we have rust stains not only from the water, but also from the exposed iron of the tub. YUK. I don't ever feel really clean after a shower..... I know TMI!Originally posted by Darlene

We have a softener/chlorinator system. Our well water is very high in iron and sulfur. Like Chriss, I hate that there is chlorine involved. There is some sort of filter on the system for the chlorine, but we also have extra filters inside the house to remove it all.

We have lots of different filters on the well. There is a magnet on the pipe (have no idea what it does), a "chunk" filter (it looks like a string wound round and round), a UV light (kills off bacteria or something), and the softner. It seems like I am forgetting some. The well is my husband's department.
We also have a osmosis filter under the kitchen sink. It looks sort of weird because we have this extra faucet thing. The water tastes really good though and we drink alot of water.Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998

Yep, we have one. Had to get it while I was going through chemo, I couldn't even shower in our water!
This one not only has a softener but also a light that kills 99.9% of the bacteria in the water.
