    Default HM Deisel??

On the news tonight they talked about making your own deisel feul. There will be a workshop oon it Saturday at a local education center. Supposedly all the items you need are readily available at Home Depot or even junkyards. If you could make your own...would you? I will post a link to the story in a minute.

If my car used diesel, maybe, but I'm not sure I would want to put it into a big expensive piece of machinery without making sure it wouldn't wreck it first....

We have two diesel vehicles and DH was debating on making his own biodiesel, but you need lots of equipment that we can't have in our apartment. Also he was thinking about the vegetable oil conversion in our car. The kit that DH wants costs $1000 from Canada. You put it in but you don't have to worry about the filtering process because it does it for you so that you are able to use used vegetable oil from restaurants. We don't have the money for the conversion at the moment. They do have other kits out there that are much cheaper, but you have to filter the oil yourself and that can be a pain.

DH asked me to research this today --- I found some articles about the vegetable oil conversion and the biodiesel.

One of the articles I read suggested that using the biodiesel/veg oil for running a home generator as well.

Its an intriguing avenue and sounds like it is working well for lots of folks. Hopefully it will be one of the fuels of the future! There are so many advantages to it --- being renewable is a terrific one!

We aren't getting into the biodeisel, we're working on distilling ethanol. Must be in the family genes or something...grandpa used to run moonshine up in WV.

Anyway, you can produce 10,000 gallons of ethanol per year with a permit. Since we raise pigs the mash will go for pig food.

Prices on corn this year are average $2.30 bushel. You can get about 2 1/2 gallons per bushel. That's if we buy through the markets. We haven't checked with any of the farmers around here and the corn hasn't really come in for this season. So, I'm hoping it will be cheaper.
