Scarey stuff - 50 to 150% rise in....
Energy costs for Canadians this coming winter. CBC reported last night that Canadians can expect to pay AT LEAST $1,000.00 more this winter in energy costs. Many won't be able to pay their heating bills.
A spunky lady of 83 said "all I want to do is be able to pay my heating bill, not purchase the company".
This is really scarey stuff because of the winters we have.

CJ --- I am keeping my fingers crossed that all of our worries over the winter weather are for naught --- and that it will be mild. Thank goodness for sites like this where we can brainstorm possible strategies for coping with this type of situation.

Is that electric or oil heat? I heat my apartment through electric heating, which is rediculously expensive, as the town we live in actually buys power from the Nova Scotia Power company and then they charge us inflated prices for it. It's sad, but true -- this town will bleed a person dry. At any rate, I certainly can't afford an increase. Now I am not sure what we're going to do this year.

They talked about energy costs. Our electricity costs went up this year already and will again be going up in Feb. Our electric company owns our gas company - NOT GOOD NEWS AT ALL!!!
There are a couple of provinces that will be giving rebates back, however the highest rebate they mentioned was $250 to low income families. That is quite a difference from $1,000.00 that every family is going to be hit with. Some will even be hit with more depending on where they live.
Naderbug - the east coast provinces were mentioned in regards to the high rates you pay there.

I am in Canada and in winter country so I'm definitely not looking forward to the hike. In my province, they are talking about a 40% increase in energy. And that's just the start. With fuel prices and food going up, any extra savings has just been eaten up. I am already keeping the heat off or very low and bundling everybody up in sweaters, socks and slippers. Lights are off, and we will begin to hang dry our clothes. If it means keeping my bill down for awhile, I'm going to do it!
The only upside is that we are supposed to have an above average warm fall so that should help.Tamara
