Dishwasher

I have been checking my KWH daily just to get an idea of how the things that I do daily affect our power bill. I have noticed that on the days I run the dishwasher, I use 4KWH more than days that I don't. I know that isnt alot but it adds up. Especially when I was running it daily.

I can't wait until this weekend to see how running the washer/dryer will change it.

When I stopped using my clothes dryer years ago, we cut our electricity bill by $20 - $25.00 per month. That was over 17 years ago. That is quite a huge savings over the years.

When we moved here I no longer had a dishwasher. We take turns washing and drying the dishes. It is one of the best times of day for us, not because it's a joy to wash dishes but because it's time spent together talking. I haven't a clue though how much we save not having a dishwasher, however I can guarantee it is a savings.

I would say it is a savings, mainly because we have a well..so washing by hand won't affect our water bill in anyway. I might start washing by hand a few days a week when I have time.

I have been telling DH I would love to have a clothes line, but just haven't taken the step to get one. Growing up, my mother always hung clothes on the line and when she would bring them in, she would throw them in the dryer for about 10 minutes, just to soften them up some. Ofcourse her clothes line was hand made, but I think I could get a small one at walmart pretty reasonable.
