    Default Window Film?

DH and I were lying in bed last night when he turned and asked me if I remembered the plastic that people put over windows in the 80's to save heat - I just looked at him with a blank stare because I had never heard of this. Of course, reading posts here the past few days, it seems like everyone here has been getting ready for winter by putting these things up. I've been looking on Home Depot's website, but it seems like all they have is a $50 kit thing, and I'd still have to buy $30 worth of "tools" to apply the stuff. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I can buy some and what it's called? I searched under "insulate windows" and "window film," though the latter turned up mostly decorative stuff.

We used it in our old house. Around here you can find it in Lowe's, Home Depot, or sometimes WalMart, and all it takes to apply it is a hairdryer. You hold the sheets up to the window and use a hairdryer to heat the edges, which seals it to the window frame. It's very easy, and made a big difference on a very drafty window. It's been about 2-3 years since I bought any, but I know we didn't spend more than $15 or so on it. I don't remember what it's called but if I think of it I'll come back and post.

OK, I had to go look.

    Here's a good how-to article:

Ace hardware carries their own brand of insulating kits. They have plastic and tape and all you need to finish is a hairdryer. I did all of our windows this week and it makes a huge difference...no drafts.

    Good luck finding some Sara.
