Cool Line-drying and my latest power bill

Our electricity bill is for two months. This period was from August 26 through October 26th. The power company always reports your 'average KWH (kilowatt hour) per day' for this bill AND for the same period last year. Last year, I averaged 29KWH/day. This year: 22! Can you believe it?

The average temperatures are also on the bill, so you can see if heat makes a big difference. This year's average high temp: 64, and low: 50. Last year was 62 and 51. Both very close, but this year the days are slightly warmer and the nights slightly cooler.

So, I have here an 'unexplained' 25% decrease in my power consumption. The ONLY other difference that I started line-drying August 16th. Coincidence? You decide.

Me? I'm off to REALLY get motivated to get my clothesline into my attic for the rainy season.

    Wahoo!!

Editing to add: I'm on budget pay (I pay the same amount each month, year round), but this works out to a $34 savings for this two-month period, compared to last years usage.

Well done, Valerie. That is so great! Of course it's the clothes dryer. I remember reading somewhere that the running cost of a dryer in the States is about 40 cents per load.

You win on at least two points - you save money and you reduce your greenhouse gas emissions considerably. You also add to the life for your clothes, linens and your clothes dryer.

Thanks for sharing that Valerie. I normally do hang out most of my clothes, but had gotten in a lazy spell of drying some of them a few months back. I started line drying ALL of them again, as long as the weather cooperates. I know I'll have to dry some when it gets cold and rains because DH works off for weeks at a time and comes home for a few days and I have to have everything washed and packed again. So if weather is nasty, they'll have to be dried.

However, your posting gives me more incentive to line dry as much as possible. That's a huge savings! Hurray for you !!

WTG Valerie! I'm hoping to see a reduction in next months bill - I've been really good about line drying - and turning off all lights when not in use, i'm going to keep my fingers crossed I make a big saving this month like you!!

    Thats really great.
i have been lazy in that area lately. I hurt my ankle and walking to th eclothes line with a heavy basket and on the uneven ground kept agravating it. Still not up to doing it. I hang alot inside in the laundry room though.
