propane prices?
wellllllllllllllllll. i went out and checked our propane % to see if i needed to order some in, and of course we do. so i called and placed my order. it jumped from 1.35 a gallon to 1.54 a gallon! i could only afford to get 100 gallons, then they charge you a 25.00 delivery charge if you order 100. but to get 200 gallons and avoid the charge the price went from 212.47 to 303.84. hubby will get a phone call about the heat tonight!

Our tank is getting low too, and I've been trying to avoid calling so I don't know the price here. But I bet its similar. I've never ordered anything but a fill --- didn't know you could order just 100 gallons or so!
I've been shrieking at the kids for a couple of months to tough it out with the thermostat lower, taking short showers, etc. And I've been avoiding using the oven --- which I hate doing since I want to bake Christmas goodies! The cold spell we had earlier in December was cold enough our furnace came on quite a bit despite the woodstove heat.
I'm dreading find out this bad news for myself!~~Jean~~

Oh, Kim! Dh definately needs to learn to control his temperature! Of course, we used almost 1/2 a tank when it got so cold a few weeks ago. Can you contract in the fall? I was able to pre-pay 2500 gallons at $1.19. Alliance is the name of our gas company, out of Shenandoah, IA. You probably have someone else on your side of the river though.

I guess with smaller tanks they charge more. Ours is a smaller tank and heats our water and a small room. Hope you are sitting down...last fill was $3.14 gal.
Glad we don't use much of that. Quick showers taken here.

How big is your "smaller" tank? Ours is 500 gallons which they will fill to 80% or 400 gallons. I didn't ask them how much it would be if the order was for less than a fill, or just a few gallons.~~Jean~~

We got 258 gallons for $425. Ouch. Still it could have been worse ---
Darlene --- I am so sorry it is soooooooo expensive where you live --- that is awful. Do you think it would be worth investigating a larger tank?~~Jean~~

Since we only use it for 2 things this is what they gave us. I did call a couple other companies and we are probably switching. Such a pain to switch but that price difference! They were so nice and friendly & their price was 2.44/gal vs the 3.14/gal.Originally posted by jlxian

Can I join in with your gripe.
My propane tank was filled just before the holiday:
218 gallons at $2.48 a gallon - $541.88. I am glad I am on a budget plan but this seems really high.
I am keeping my temp down at 6o during the day and 65 for about 5 hours in the evening to warm up a little.

Wow Darlene, must be our wonderful NY taxes huh? We have a 100 gallon tank too and just last week got a fill. I think it was 62 gallons for a total of $215 give or take a $ or 2. So we are just about where you are for price per gal.
Ours is used for hot water, stove and dryer, I already use the dryer as little as possible but this last month Dec. used the hot water and stove much more than usual due to holiday baking. Now I am back to normal usage, so hopefully it will even itself out again.~~ Dee ~~
