    Default Gas Bill Came Today

Let me preface by saying that our bill for last month was $60. I thought we were doing SO well! Apparently the rate hike was with this bill, and, it was colder, but we have NEVER gone above 65 and usually don't go higher than 63 and I don't turn the heat on until 5:30 anyway.

This bill was an actual reading and it was $350!!!

I cannot believe it! You have got to be kidding me! Tomorrow I'm gonna check the meter against the reading on the bill, just to be sure, but holy cow!

We are in the same boat.
October's bill was $187, November's was $330, then on the news they said the utility company was announcing a rate hike, but residential customers would only see an average of $10 increase in their bill.
Uh huh, I think they forgot a zero...
Our December's bill was $470!!!!! My heat stays on 59* 18hrs a day, it's on 60 or 62 the other 6 hours (three hours on each temp). AND we have a woodstove! We almost never have more than one room's light on at a time. Talk about a shocker!

I definitely can sympathize with you. I'm telling dh, when he's back to work and we're back on our feet, we are building our own home. I'll gladly give up some space & some 'perks' to put in some solar panels!!!

Did they maybe estimate your last months bill and you had to make up the difference this month? Our meters are all computerized, they don't even have to come read them. Just just drive down the streat and get the reading via remote.

Gee...that high of a bill doesn't seem right. My gas bill was $66 last month. I'm expecting around $100 this month. That seems awfully high. I sure hope they made a mistake.

Mine was three times higher than the previous month. November was $47, December was $146. We have a home with less than 900 square feet, and keep the thermostat set on 62.

We're in the same boat too $363 last month for a colder house than normal; in fact I'm having an estimate for a replacement boiler on Monday. Our boiler is older, and therefore not very efficient.

Hope it was an error Amy - that's a big bill to pay after the holidays.
